My take on the Traxtor XL Pulling Comp Tire

Well folks I was given a chance to have a look at the new RC4WD Traxtor XL 2.G Pulling Comp Tires which showed up 2 days ago. I was very happy to take a peep at these new Clod sized pulling tires not just for it's scaleness to the real deal but also cause these tires has got to be my most favorite Clod tires EVER released since the Clod itself. When I first got them and looked them over they didn't seem to be as large a tire as I expected but all of that changed when I put a stock Clod tire upside of it and the overall tire diameter and size as you'll see from the pics below truly shows how much more larger it is.

Anywho on to the write up of these HOT new tires. Since I've seen the CAD design of these tires to the finished product I've been amazed by how much of an awesome replica tire these are compared with the real 1:1 pulling tires. With that been said I will first off state that I've never onced R/C pulled ever so the testing of these tires was actually more of a bash all around type of test of the tires. I first off had to decide if I was gonna run them on my TXT-1 or my 4-linked Stock Clod. Whelp I went with the Clod as I soon plan to convert it into an oldschool Super Puller.

Once I've decided what bling (rims) I was gonna run these BEAUTIFULL tires with I mounted them up and charged a few packs and headed right down to the beach in a large loose sand area. The main reason I wanted to give these things a good ol sand run was due to the threads having a shovel/scoop like pattern which in my mind told me that maybe these would perform much like paddle tires for buggies & in which they very well did except it didn't sling sand up in the air as high or as much as per say a Pro-Line 40-series Paddle tire. These tires in a way sort of hovered on the sand and made things seem as a pretty smooth ride compared to when running with other different types of Clod tires.

The tires include foam with them of course and are a little above a medium compound with the foams in them, the texture is also a bit more softer then compared to the Chevron Threading of a stock Clod tire. You'll be able to tell right from the back that these tires are the ultimate pulling tires as I believe this is what the main goal was for the Team of RC4WD was to release a scale and functional pulling tire for those on the end of the R/C hobby & they've surely succeeded with these. To take a closer look at just what these tires were really like I dug the foam out of one of them and held the tire in one hand and an RC4WD Mud-Slinger in the other hand and the carcass of the tire is about as equal to a stock Clod tire just a tad bit more stiffer. When holding the 2 tires in each hand the Mud-Slingers are without a doubt a bit more heavier with a light softer carcass.

Since the run at the beach driving in sand I've also did a few runs in light muddy areas and some mud puddles and found the tire holds up quite nice running on all types of different surfaces all except for pavement and sidewalks as that would eat the shovel like scoop threads up if ran in the proper direction there meant to be ran in. Simple solution would be to flip the tire around so the shovel like scoops are facing backwards and run the tires in that manner if you run your truck on pavement or sidewalks.

I did not bother with trying to take a few action photo shots as the tires can be seeing full blown in action on www.rc4wd.com, as well as what it looks like inflated. I also didn't bother snapping action pics cause holding the camera and control would have been a bit difficult on my part since I did these test runs alone. However I've snapped some shots of the tire being mounted to a few different rims as well as pics to show the tire side by side with other Clod tires to show size comparison. Anywho onto the pics.

Anywho I hope this write up review of these tires will give you folks a good idea of how these tires perform and what they're all about. After testing these tires I've broken down my truck to get ready for my Clod puller project but here?s a bonus shot of the tires being aligned up against the truck with about a 14-1/2" wheelbase.

Much Thanks takin' the time to read up on these tires and hope to see you Clod junkies with a few sets of these on your very own truck as these tires aren't just for Scale Competition Tractor Pulling but great for the all around basher and even a 4x4 based pulling & bashing truck.

Anyone test these as pulling tires? I would like to know how they perform on like the STPA or NRCTPA style track.

Thanks

I have tested the first run of the tires and I can tell you that if anyone runs these at worlds they are going to be the ones to beat. After this fall everyone will probably be running them. I am trying to talk rc4wd into making a 3.25"x2" version to fit on a tlt wheel so they can be used on 4x4 pullers.

Here are the specs of the tires allowed to be used on NR/CTPA Pro-Stock tractors:

Maximum Diameter, 6 1/2"
Maximum Tread width 4 1/2"
Must be agricultural single "V" type bar tread

I looked at these tires and I see the specs are:

Specification:
  • Outer Diameter: 6.8" (173mm)
  • Width: 4.4" (112mm)
  • Inner Diameter: 2.6" (66mm)
I like the looks of these and want to try them, but they are not within the legal specs. Was there not a pair of tires that fit the NR/CTPA specs, called Traxtor?

Thanks

They have been working on a true clod size since march. I was told they shoud be out around october. Same tire but smaller. These will be the tire you see on everybodys tractor next fall. The ones I testet had over 40 packs through them before they started showing wear.
