Well it's the body off the Bruiser I got from Will from the last raffle. I decided the body needed to go (sorry Will) but I didn't want to just throw it away so I figured I'd try something I wanted to do in 1:1 but never had a chance to.
You may think I got the inspiration for this from the Halo Warthog but I actually had got the idea from a 1:1 I saw in a magazine 15+ years ago. The guy used a blazer, T-topped it, and made it a mudder. Not sure exactly what I'm going to use this on but I'm leaning toward a 1.9 trail truck. I realize this isn't a conventional design but I kind like the "love it or hate it" styling. Anyway here's a run down of what I did.
Here's the original truck, I'm sure just about everyone is familiar with it.
Stripped the decals and paint with Purple power....
Cut the bed out and took about an inch out between the cab and the bed. I also bobbed the bed, taking 3/4" out of the rear.
Built the cab and filled in the hood using styrene I had. I kept the original half post for strength.
Added reinforcement strips to the joints and filled in the rest of the front window posts. I made a small hood scoop out of the big one from the Super Clodbuster.
I heated and then bent the mounts for the front skirt. This pulls it back at an angle so the front appears smaller. I also opened up the wheelwells.
This is going to sound stupid but I'm pretty proud of those little pieces under the tail lights I made. Those pieces are part of the tailgate but I didn't want to waste a perfectly good Chevy tailgate just for those little parts so I made them by bonding pieces of styrene into blocks and shaping them.
I ran out of primer so here it is partly primered so I can see a flaws in the bodywork. I'll hold off on any more work until I build a chassis for it and have it fit up.
