My "New" Clod

Hello all,

My name is Giovanni and I live in Italy.
I bought an used and really old Bullhead on ebay, and now I want to restore it and build a nice basher.

I had to order a set of plastic parts to replace the external gearcases chassis, which are fragile because of the age (first test run I broke two axle cases and one of the gearcases, without any crash...).

All the rest (wheels, tires, drivetrain, motors, etc) is however fine, so I will use them as they are.

I really love the Tamiya 53520 Lightweight chassis, but I can't find it cheap here in Europe, so decided to build a replica of it using my CNC mill.

Now, the big problem: I don't have any dimensional drawing from which copy the chassis.

Is there anybody here which own a TXT-1 chassis (even the original one) and that couls send me a picture, or a drawing, of it with few relevnt measures?
If I could obtain the measures from the original chassis, I could draw it and build a new chassis as I like.

What I need are external dimension (height, length) of the side vertical plate, distance between he fixing holes, etc...

Could anybody help me?

of course, I would draw everything using autocad, and share the results with the community here.

Thank you in advance,
Giovanni

Give me till the weekend, I should be able to measure the spare TXT chassis I have laying around for you?

btw, we love pictures of rigs being built!

Thank you very much!!!

You are right, picture are needed.

I own this Bullhead for a long time now, but unfortunately I don't have any picture of it in its stock form...

Instead, I already tried to build a homemade chassis, to create a custom truck around it, but suddendly stopped he building when both gearcases broke.
After that, and until now, the Bullhead/Clodbuster rested in pieces into its box.

However, >>>>> HERE IS A GALLERY <<<<<< of what I've done in the past; now, as told, everything is dismantled in small pieces...

Actually, looking back to the gallery above I'm tempted to use again such a chassis, instead of the TXT-1 clone; I didn't remember it was so cute...

However, please give me the dimensions, I would try to draw a TXT-1 clone chassis and decide, side to side, which one I prefer.

Ciao,
Giovanni

Txt1 chassis

As luck would have it i just bought that blue Tamiya lightweight chassis for my TXT1. The chassis comes packaged on a card with a exact template of both the stock chassis and lightweight chassis. I laid the old chassis on it and it is exact rite down to the holes. It cant cost too much to ship a piece of cardboard from the states can it? Send me a P.M. with your mailing address and i will look into it.

Just noticed the price on the link. I was extremely happy paying $75.00 for my chassis new. $68.00 is a great price. There is a few on E-bay ranging from one at $82 buy it now price and one as high as $149.

Unfortunately TamiyaUSA doesn't ship outside the US...
I would buy it at $68, if I was in the US.
Here in Europe the cheapest one you can have is around 130 Euro shipped ($170).

That leads me to use the CNC mill I have at work, which I can use for free.

Wow! If you have access to a CNC mill thats a no brainer. Now please, please, please get this template from me and make some out of 3mm carbon fiber. If you can come up with the rite one i will buy one from you. I have been thinking of getting some machined lower links and converting mine to more of a Clodbuster type upright shock instead of the TXT1 inboard cantilevers up on top. The chassis will have to be modified or added to slightly for additional shock mount locations. I have been working on mounted a Axial AX10 tranny to mine and would love to get rid of all the stuff on top. Body mounts, shocks, battery, holder everything. I think a TXT1 with a low center of gravity would be cool. Maybe this weekend i can swap the lower links off my Clod and mock up what i have in mind and you can take a look.
