My merv rebuild

well i have had my merv (bl version) for about a year now. until recently its been completely stock. i broke a front arm not to long ago and decided to replace it with some rpm ones and thats when the buying started.....

like so many my knuckles/pillow balls were sloppy so i bought a pair of the HR ones.... one went together flawlessly the other i ended up stripping the aluminum pillow ball screws out due to what i think was a manufacture defect. you can read more about that problem here:

http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=523000

at the same time i bought the HR knuckles i bought a pair of the new swept back arms from traxxas. iwant the truc kto handle better and im not big on using a wheelie bar.

the arms went on with no problems. here is a pic of the completed rear end with the arms and knuckles.

before i got the rear end all put back together i found i needed some new bearings for the knuckles. so when i ordered them i also ordered the GPM knuckles for the front.heck i wanted to try em since i had problems with just putting the HR ones together.

i like these knuckles. they went together as smooth as silk and the balls pivot with no binding. (i have a small amount of binding with the HR ones). will they hold up better ? im not sure yet. i have yet to run the truck but i will let you know.

these knuckles use what i think is a delrin pillow ball screw.just one piece. unlike the HR ones where there is a pillow ball bushing and an aluminum screw to hold everything in place.the GPM knuckles use just the one part to do both jobs.also the GPM screws have a rubber o-ring like the HR ones to hold the screw in place.

installation was a breeze.

so im on a buying/rebuild kick with this truck so keep an eye out for more hop ups and testing.

also if you have any suggestions for my next purchase, by all means lmk.

some updates...

i got the front GPM knuckles on and i like them alot better then the HR ones.

also got another item in the mail..........

the instructions are pretty good and it goes on with out to much of a hassle.

the chassis skid added some weight so i dropped down to a 26 tooth pinion. truck still has some slop in the turnbuckle and push rod area so i think that may be the next item to buy. also the suspension needs to be rebuilt and adjusted.

the stock tires are about bald so iam looking into that area also. i was going to get the new response tires and rims but i only bash the merv so im afraid those pins wont last long. i like the wider stance the traxxas wheels offer but iam up in the air as to what tire to buy.

stay tuned for more updates.
