My Intro to R/C and Nitro

Hey guys and gals,

I'm new to R/C and Nitro all in the same stroke. I have played with junk cars before growing up but nothing nice like these. After my soph. and jr year at college and having to spend lots of time at the hobby shops buying parts for our project (my sem was a mobile crane, the gf's sem was a buggy with a torque wrench on it) I became interested in the Nitro's after watching them run at a local track several times but never could afford one...

I just moved out to Cali from NC) and a guy around the corner had a Nitro buggy which gave me the bug again to get one of these things...So I have just picked up a solid Stampede off of ebay and from the same seller I picked up 2 chassis with bodies and radios all for right under $200 which I didnt think was bad...They will arrive early this week and I cannot wait. I plan to build up 1 truck from the 2 scraped 1's so I will have at least 2 solid trucks out of all 3...

I wanted to introduce myself and didnt see a thread for that so I figured the Nitro would be the best suited place since my pede's are nitro's...I hope to enjoy this and have the chance to build up a crawler at some point and time...

heres some pix of the trucks:

Is there anyway I can have a mod update the username...I slipped up and n00b'd myself...I need an "r" added to the end so its unccpathfinder...

Thanks

as a fellow nitro owner myself i want to say welcome to the club:tmb

since this is your first nitro i thought i might try to give you a little info i learned.

as long as you can see some smoke coming out of the pipe its getting plenty luberication.

if your not sure about something ask because nitro tuning is very finicky but once its tuned you dont have to make many adjustments later on.

you will enjoy it once you get it tuned right.

dont get discouraged every nitro owner went through the same thing at one point =P

need any help dont hesitate to ask.

Unless it's a Traxxas TRX 3.3. It's off by a ton everytime I go to run. But I do enjoy it once it is tuned.

Thanks for the welcomes...Yea I've done a lot of reading and checking into everything the guy said he would tune it the best he could but I know the temperature change and elevation changes along with the humidity will mess with it a little...when I get the trucks in I plan to run what I can to make sure it works then get a temp gun and go through them very good make sure everything is tight and in good working order

I'm pretty sure at least 1 or more of those extra engines will need to be rebuilt so that will also be on top of the list to have a spare...

these cant be any worse to work on than my pathy...

From my experiance, which isn't huge, OS engines are the best at holding a tune. I had a T-Maxx and like RCPullerDude said, unless its a 3.3, Traxxas engines suck. I've have a TNX 3.0, which has an OS .18 engine and a TNX 5.2 which has a duplicate engine to OFNA .32 And my OS seems to perform the best. Granted the .32 has a ton more power, but the .18 does really well.

In any case, welcome to the site. Looks like you have some good work ahead of you to get that all together. Have fun. :tmb

Where are you located in So Cal? I'm in Orange County, Santa Ana to be specific.
