My home built monster

My little engine and header pipes arrived today while I was at work. CPE was right on top of shipping them out, middle order placed and first to arrive, thanks a lot Brett. Just couldn't resist at least mocking up the engine.

And a couple with the body off. I'm glad I got a new body before I completely destroyed this one. Having it around lets me play with ideas on how I'm going to cut the new one, like around the roll bars and in rye bed and back window area.

I've yet to see the CPE motor - I think that looks good.
I wish it had a little more detail, it's kind of like a big chrome blob. I think I'm going to paint a few things on it, like tyre butterflies, maybe the block and heads and leave the valve covers chrome. I think it's going to turn out pretty cool. Not as awesome as those muscle machines engines, but still pretty cool.

"Big chrome blob" lol! I was thinking the same thing but for the price it can't be beat, plus it had some nice headers. I too think some paint on the butterflies, valves, hoses, etc. would spice it up. Keep us updated!

So here's the little big block with a little paint on it. I think it made a world of difference. Wanted it to match with my new body which is going to be metallic blue and silver.

Looks awesome, I like the idea of being able to have a custom color engine with a bit of paint. What did you use?

Not sure what kind of paint it is, I just dug around in my kids art box till I found some paint and a brush that wasn't all dried up. I think it came from some model plane he got for Christmas. Not sure if it will hold up or not but we'll see I guess.

Got my new springs on, feels a lot better. Haven't driven it yet but it sits in the spring now not at the end of it. Also added some more bars here and there, straightened up one crooked piece that was driving me crazy, made a cradle mount for the engine and moved all the electronics and wiring around for a cleaner look. I think I'm ready to try to paint this again and be done with soldering.

Since 90% of the snow here melted off in the past couple days I actually got a chance to run a couple packs through my truck today. I was very pleased with the new springs. It's still rather cold here though and I could tell the difference in handling as the shocks got cold and the oil thickened. It got very stiff by the end of the second pack. Now I'm trying to decide if I need to make a set of sway bars or not, hard to judge with the weather.

The big block motor does look alot better with some paint on it. What color are you going to paint the cage.

Not quite sure yet. I was gonna go with the traditional black, but I keep wondering what it would look like silver. I guess if I paint it silver and don't like it I can always paint it black over it. What do you think?

i would shoot the whole chassis black , but thats me :D

give it a more uniform look ;)
I've been going back and forth about painting the whole chassis for ever now. I think it would look more uniform for sure, but I don't want to see it all scratched up and ugly, you know.

So mad right now. I stayed up till like 4:30 in the morning last night painting my new body. Came back to it today to apply decals. I started trimming it up, cut along the bottom edge and the damn thing split right up the molded in body line! Don't even have it mounted yet and it's already ripped! Wth HPI?

well that sucks.. you need some fiberglass tape now(or what ever the lexan body tape is made out of anyway)

but at that seems like it would be a fault of the body for it to do that.

Yeah, already got the shoe goo out and ready. I'll be calling HPI customer service in the morning and pitching a serious fit for sure, can't believe that.
