Yeh I do get that. I'm in Aus and parts usually take 2-3 weeks to arrive.... I have a couple of clods and a txt-1 and txt-2 and they are comparably very strong. Happy to bash those instead.

Lately I have been thinking of getting a crawler.... I don't really want to pour too much more money into this hobby :roll: So I started thinking about converting the GP into a crawler seeing as though it hasn't been getting used much. I was thinking that the GP should make a decent crawler seeing as though that is what it was based on.

The BSD Racing BSD703T is basically GP axles and tranny on a crawler.

I started by trying to fit the GP diff locks that I bought from CPE last year. I couldn't get them to fit at the time, but I decided to have another go at it. No matter which way I look at it, they simply don't fit. I decided to epoxy lock the rear diff instead

Then came the other main mods;
Flipped the tray so the battery is at the front
Fitted some aftermarket springs. I can't remember exactly what they are, but I had written 1.4 pounds on a card in the pack.
Put in a 11T pinion, which was the smallest I had. Final gear ratio is 36.1:1
Kept the HPI GT550 motor that I have as it has the most torque of any motor that I have. It has the same top end as a silver can, but it has much more torque.
Fitted the original Shock Therapy body back on.

I wondered what it would look like with a different body. Pretty cool I thought!

Then gave it a bit of a test run in the back yard. Then the kids came out with their friends from next door, so I got out the Wheely King as well and let them go for it!

Flexing;

And then mocked up the other body to see what it looked like;

I'm happy with how this turned out. It's not comp crawler, but it was fun to tackle some obstacles in the back yard. The steering as expected isn't great. I am considering locking the front diff as well, but I would convert it back to 4ws if I do this. Also I should be able to get a 8T pinion to fit which will give me a final ratio of 49.7:1. I might try some slightly softer springs too and pick up one of those Proline Ford bodies. I don't really want to cut up my Blue Thunder body.

I finally lost patience with the Ground Pounder. I was going to sell it off, but then decided to put Clod axles under it. I was really surprised how straight forward it was to do. No issues at all, it pretty much bolted straight together. The axles I put under it are both locked. Running silver cans on 3S.

YEA! I'm now a member of RCMT! Had a heck of a time getting my account to work. I got no confirmation email, or it got lost in spam. Had to search google in depth to find someone to help me, but I am here! This is a great looking GP! I have a frame and am doing a custom build to make a Grave Digger with clod wheels and tires. Been reading here after I cleared my cookies. I was totally locked out!
