My Ground Pounder thread

Well I'm getting back into rc cars after about 12 year. My first rc car I got was the grasshopper when I was about 11 years old. Then I got into the monster trucks with the lunch box, I loved that truck. about 6 years later I got a hpi 4 wheel drive stadium truck, then a traxxas nitro rustler. Now the Ground Pounder I got for Christmas. My first few runs where fun but i noticed the truck would run different ever time I took it out. Some times it would seem fast, then the next time it would seem slower, so I went brushless. I ordered some metal axles from cpe and went to my local hobby shop and picked up a mamba max pro combo. That did the trick for a few runs and it decided to eat the spur gear. So out with the crappy transmission/motor set up and in with a traxxas slash transmission which needed a shoe horn to get into place. My next mods are going to be better rims/tires and a new radio set up. Any way here are some pics.

The traxxas trans is the way to go,they are cheap plentiful and very rugged,im eventually gonna upgrade to the rpm cases and alum plate,I ended up mounting mine at a weird angle in order to keep the driveshafts straight, your conversion turned out nice.what gearing are you running,I'm running 32pitch with a 20t pinion and 54t spur,I'm also running a mamba max pro and a 6100kv 7.5 turn motor and on 2s it is very fast and still pulls wheelies even with jumbo maxx tires and wheels and on 3s its insane

I just finished the transmission last night so I'm going to take it easy on it for a few runs to see how it does, I'm using a 19t pinion with a 90t spur, after I know its good to go I will change those out. Do you have any pictures of the way you mounted the transmission in yours.

i ended up carefully drilling holes and screwing the case to the chassis.did you lock up the diff, mines locked but I was considering running an unlocked diff,I was thinking it might help making the front steering work better

I was just talking to a buddy of mine about going to try a traxxas trans, Look really good in there But not alot of room after the bulky traxxas trans gets shoved in there. i wish they were a little smaller. cause they are alot cheaper than thrying to convert over to axail trans

It is kinda big,but it fits in good,it can be tricky changing the motor but easy after you do it a couple times,it looks big in there, but all the space your taking up is empty useless space anyways

I've got a spare pede trans laying around. Soo do you gotta fab brackets or kinda just drill holes to shoehorn it in?? Looks to be motor is top wise of chassis and spurs in front wise of chassis?

Ya pretty much just set it in and drill away,I started by securing it in from the top and added more screws as I felt were necessary, just open up the trans first to see where you can properly mount to where it wont jam up the gears.on mine the spur sits pretty close to the upper suspension link,so make sure there is proper clearance,i also made the alum bracket for extra support,I'm sure with a little creativity someone can find an even better way to mount it,its not that hard and like I said the trans is very rugged it took the abuse of a mamba max pro on 3s with a 7.5 4 pole motor and jumbo maxx tires

No I havn't locked the diffs yet, I think I might put it up for sale or trade and get a short course truck. So if anyone want to buy a ground pounder or has a short course truck they want to trade, let me know.
