My final clod project! ZRP Diablo Spiderman

ZRP Diablo Spiderman no more...Captain America

Well, I have 4 race clods and I told myself I would not do another one. That is, until I became friends with Jon Zyck and wanted to support his dream to produce a race chassis (It seems that 70% of my race clod stuff came from Jon anyways). I told him I would build one more if he produced the chassis. So here it is, my final clod project. Excited about it! Gathered up almost everything I need. Still need a couple things like another y-harness and a glitch buster for the receiver and digital servo. I burned up my dremel tool on my last project- but found out that they have a 5year warranty and received my new one- ready to bust out the steering mods.

It will run most likely... dual castle 5700 sidewinders even though I might swap them out with the dual 6000kv ezruns I have in the darknight berzerker truck. The motors will match the color scheme better and this chassis will help the short motor wires that come with the ezrun systems. So probably th ezruns now that I type that out.

Of course imex- threads and txt rims. Oh I need to pick up the txt drive hubs. Only ones I see online is the aluminum ones from HK.

Jon suggested running losi sct front shocks... lots of spring choices and comes with the shocks spacers for mounting.

Of course the axles will be beefed up with CVD's and Straight Axles...

Savox digital high torque servos- haven't decided to do dual steering or not. Received some super sweet ZRP HD axle braces- surely to help my lap times!

And to top it off (haha) a custom painted lid from none-other than darkside designs. So it's ready to be built! what are we waiting for...

Let me know what you think... thanks for sharing the love

I like lots of pics in threads and I like showing off trucks I have spent a lot of time and money in. Here are some pics of my previous trucks:

my first clod build- SOLD Chassis- I think the axles went to my nightwing cpe predator project?

my first race clod build, CPE Terminator: and it's variants since. still have the clod!

Completed a CPE predator: it currently is flying a new lid. still have the clod! Oh and the lid still looks great don't know what to do yet with it. I like the superman one better believe it or not.

Then I picked up this TTR ripper: and it's new lid. still have the clod!

Then I scored a NIP PRP berzerker: still have this one too!

And then one more clod to go...

here are my lids in waiting:

Great pile of parts! Ahh you say its your last clod, thats what i thought 7 clods ago! The zrp chassis is a great piece of hardware with many adjustments.

thanks for the kind words on the parts... I like the truck loaded!

If I had somewhere local to race them I am sure it would be a different story. Maybe with the traxxas timing system I can start to gather a little interest locally... I really wanted to come out to the IL racing event in April but Sunday's are real busy for me (can't take many of those off) and it's like 9hrs away. Plus I am going on vacation the week after.

Clodapalooza is going to be fun (that's in my backyard) and I am looking forward to driving them there... but each truck cost ALOT and I can't justify them hanging around doing nothing. HAHA

I really do enjoy the buildup process and then doing the speed test in my yard and street. So who knows... I have one of every chassis design I like. If I build another one... it might be a chassis I design HAHA

Now that is a drooling worthy collection fella's WOW..

there a centurion in there somewhere too?

I have a clod and WK closer to an 1/8 scale what are some good larger body's for them?

only thing I found decent is the parma 1/8 chevy silverado and the parma 1/8 digger but is there anything else out there that size or larger?

Looking good. Can't wait to see how this one turns out! One question, where is everyone scoring brand new TXT-1 wheels. I really like the look of them, but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

I have picked up my last couple of TXT sets from JC-RC... from ebay and HK I believe. If they are not on there now... give him sometime and he will post again when he has another batch. Ebay Search "Save" feature is your friend.

I am not sure on 1/8 scale bodies... I pretty much stick to the pro-line of bodies for the t-maxx stuff. I did pick up a ford raptor body from J-Concepts that looked to be 1/8 and really cool (first race clod pic). Maybe designed for the erevo? However once I started to drive it... it felt like it was catching air underneath. So I started to use the 1/10 bodies and dropping the ride height and tucking the wheel wells inside the tires- if that makes sense. low is the key I feel.

Only other body that I have that could be considered 1/8 maybe would be the ford extended cab from HPI... it's narrow but mad long. I really like the truck lid but wouldn't use it for a race clod.

sorry I can't be more help... most of my stuff is 1/10

That Bigfoot is sick! Also, your way of storing trucks is ingenius, do you have some details or pics on how they are hanging? Very cool.

thanks for the compliments.... yeah the bigfoot is slowly moving forward. I needed to lower the transmission and pick up different driveshafts. they take a while to come in I guess.

I have a 2x4 running across my rafters in which I have hand tightened in "j" that hooks I picked up from local hardware store. It was there that I also picked up some light weight chain. So the top layer of trucks hang from the "j" hook (usually from a wheelie bar) also attached to the hook is the chain and lower on the chain I used a "s" to clip onto the chain and also the next truck.

Obviously you might think the hooks might pull out of the wood or something... but I have hung office equipment and furniture from walls for years and I am not afraid of that happening. If you are going to pre-drill your hole make sure they are smaller diamater than the teeth of the screw. Plenty of meat to grab onto the hook. They are not going anywhere soon.

To me sometimes it looks like a rc meat locker... that creeps me out a little

I also hang RC from the walls... this is simpler- just a long dry wall screw and they usually hang from an a-arm or something

2 things...One, I hope I don't insult you with this, but you painted those bodies? That is UNREAL!!! OUTSTANDING work my friend...Two, Do you still have, and want to sell the Nullhead body?...lol...Mike... Great collection, and serious attention to detail...I am speechless

I didn't paint any of those bodies I am proud to say... wait I did paint two the raptor body and the nullhead.

I still have the "big pete" even though I had to chop it up some to fit the zilla 2 chassis the way I wanted and it was a cracked lid to begin with. If you are interested in it we can work something out! unless of course I get all sentimental... but I am saving for 2 expensive projects that include a timing system, drag car and tamiya bruiser. So any little bit will help :emot100:

thanks for the compliments! Clod rock and I am excited and fortunate to be able to put together another one. It's paint scheme is top notch just like the others.

Alright the work bench is cleared once again.... for me I like to start with a clean work area. I know, OCD much?

Some might disagree (tamiya tony) but many more will probably agree, what sets apart the Clodbuster is the AXLES. These are the anchor to the whole beast so many of us like to call "My Clod."

I will spend so much time right here and I love this step of the building process. I bought a set of used axles but they look to be nearly new (plus they came with enough extra parts to make another set). No scratches on the case and things are moving nicely. Still, I will tear these down and take a look inside. I will make sure there are bearings through out- everything is greased up and ready to ride.

This step includes two of my favorite upgrades.... adding CVD's/Straight Axles and doing the steering hub mod.

I will start with the steering hub mod.

Most people know to remove the steering stops on the clod hubs to gain more steering potential. Very easy to do... It's important to note that if you want to return the axles and truck back to stock configuration this mod will effect that step in the future. Without the steering stops and a not so strong steering servo, your stub axle dogbones could pop out if you clip a wall or something and become quite annoying. This is something I am not too worried about because I will always use CVD's, a high torque servo and desire more than stock steering. So for me off comes the steering stops

To get the maximum amount of steering potential however, don't stop there- when combined with CVD's I also have been taught (thank you Clodfather) that you do some more trimming on the hub. I know the pictures make my dremel job look worse than it is... it's not that bad it just looks like it... It looks slighty better in person and I didn't compromise the integrity of the part... I simply used a new sanding tool on my dremel and I don't know if I like it or not. Seriously it's not that bad HAHA

Next up getting into the case....
