My clod build

Its a proline blazer body, http://prolineracing.com/bodies/1980-chevy-blazer-t-e-2-5-maxx-revo-savage-1-10-crawler/ with a super clod grill (4x4x4 removed). The faq has a nice write up about removing the 4x4x4, then just mark the body and trim it to fit the grill.

Haven't done much with the truck, been busy working on my house. However I did open the front axle and tighten up the ball diff as tight as I could. Seems to work better with it really tight. I also ran it today, drives nice but could be faster..... it wont be long until I four link it, add the traxxas 550s and get two 7 cell 5000mah batteries.

I finally got some time to work on my K5 clod again. I ordered a few parts to 4 link it and got two 5000mah 7 cell packs.

I made some braces like the ones that come with the super clod/bullhead.

Here is a before and after shot. The stock wheel base was a little to short for the body so I added about 1 1/4 inch to it.

Before I changed anything I ran the truck with the 19t fireball motors and one of the new 7 cell pack and it seemed pretty fast, way faster than the 6 cell pack I was using before. I ran it again that way after doing the 4 link. I then put the traxxas motors in but haven't had a chance to run it yet, maybe today.

Here is how it looks from the bottom.

I love the Blazer body. Curious about how you like the 4 link on the clod as that is a future plan for a second clod of mine is to keep the chassis but add 4 link to it.

Thanks Tom, I'll see if I can keep it off the lid, its going to be that much faster... should be fun.

Spidubic so far I like it, haven't had much run time with it yet. Seem to flex and handle better than the stock setup. Stock might be ok for stock speed but with the faster motors it can get out of control pretty quick. The extra wheel base and clearance for the 550 motors is nice too. I plan to keep the stock chassis, in fact a few more small things and I'm done with this truck for a while.

Good to know. I like the look of the stock chassis and suspension so the 4 link is the way I want to go rather than a full chassis.

I am also curious about the Fireball 19T motors you were using. I assume they were zero timing so one could run in reverse without issues?

Yes, I had to double check them and adjust them a little. They seem to work great on one 7 cell battery pack, pretty fast I would have left them in if I didn't already have the traxxas 550 motors. I might even switch back to them depending on how fast it is with the 550s. This build is a runner, light basher, crawler, monster, scale, all around simple fun so speed wasn't top on the priority list. Like I said I was happy with the 19t motors but haven't tried it with the 550s... will see.

don't need cubic dollars to make a great looking and fun clod. good job man. my girlfriend's kids saw my most recent ebay clod and now want ones for themselves. i'm thinking of stock chassis/4 link setups once i break them in with my lunchbox

Thanks everyone, I'll try and get some more shots of it all clean up with the headlights on. I pretty happy with the way it turned out, should be a great all around runner.

24-7rc its just two hitec 645mgs no servo savers.

Well I ran it today with the traxxas 550s and the two 7 cell 5000mah batteries... way more torque and a little faster on the top end. So much torque that it was upside down way to much. The funny thing is that when I hooked the batteries up with a full charge my reversing servo circuit stop working. So I removed the rear servo and just ran a front. This made the turning radius really wide, I wasn't flipping it from turning to sharp it was the torque. Rolling at about half throttle and nailing it would lift the front wheels... sometimes all the way over.

It was fun but not what I wanted for this truck, so I put the 19t fireballs back in and I went and bought another reversing servo circuit, cleaned everything up and but it all pack together. I just ran it with the 19turns and with one 7 cell battery, to me, its perfect.

told ya you would flip it on its lid :laugh

i personally like that....... my clod has 12 turn titans and 16.8v and it takes a soft trigger finger to control but rips :burn

now get some video of it in action :tmb

You were right Tom, it was cool but not for this chassis and truck... maybe I need to build another one, in fact I have been thinking of another clod build for a while. I have it figured out in my head now I just need the parts and time to build it.

Pics and videos to come when I get a chance, thanks.

I tried to take some glamor shoots the other night, fresh battery, pulled the throttle, wheelied hard and broke the rear body mounts. The body twisted so bad that the clod grill came out. Glued the grill back in today and fix one of the rear body mounts, need to order parts for the other.

So i decided to do some light running to burn off the charged batteries from yesterday. I ended up pulling a rod end out of the front steering link and didn't notice until later that I actually broke a axle tube too. I haven't even run this truck hard yet.

Do the stock axle tubes break that easy?
