wow, Bill! great info.

i re-read the mm pro and it says,
"Profiles can be custom designed on a PC with the included Castle Link PC programming software"
so i would still want the link seperatly.

and the Monster is the big one. it requires high voltage, right?

I've bought the mamba pro by itself and it does NOT come with the link, or software. You can download the software free at castles website.

There is a coupon inside the box to get a free link, or discount off the new program card they now have.

Maybe it (link) comes when you purchase with a motor I don't know. I don't run castle 1/10th motors, not impressed with the reputation there.

Yes, MONSTER is the biggie, and can be run as low as 2s on up to like 30 volts or something.

oh, you can run the monster on as little as 7.2v?
i thought it needed at least 14.4v.

have you used the new programming card yet?
i wonder if its as good or better than the link to a pc.

I have used the card, own one but I don't like it. I'd much rather use my PC and do the adjustments on there. You can use the card just like a link, which is pretty much all I use it like. I did loan it out to Soilwork, he took it home to set lipo cutoff and drag brake on his ESC's because his computor is dead.

what do you mean, use it like a link?
do you change the settings on the pc, then save them to the card?

if its easy to set on the fly, seems like it would be nice for tuning out in the field.

just like a link, you use it "pass through", like a cable adapter

connect it to your ESC then a USB cable into the card and set everything from the PC. Don't have to tough anything on the card.

That pass through feature is something I didn't find out about unitl after I asked for the link with my coupon. I wish I had gotten the card because it can do what the link does plus you have the portable feature of just the card if you need it. nosyajg keeps a card in his pit box and it has come in handy on race days for a few of us. Much easier than having to boot up a laptop and link it in.

so, do you need to program the card with your pc prior to hooking it to the vehicle?
or can you make changes right there on the spot on the card?

The card acts indepedent of a computer, it's just a push button deal with the most used adjustments put on it(like lipo cutoff, punch control, brake power, etc.) The adjustments on the card are set, you can't reprogram them, so what's on the card in all it can do. You'll need a computer only if you want to access the adjustments that aren't on the card.

What this guy said :wnk
I like using the PC because of throttle and brake curve. Seeing everything is nice too. The card would be the best option if you race at a track and don't have a craptop you bring. Because it can do both.

So if you never hit a track the card is not really needed because most people don't need spot on changes, you normally have things setup and leave them as a basher.

However, if there is a chance, get a card you never know. It's not that much more, and if you have the coupon you pay 10.00 less. However the whole reason I like castle ESC's is the ability to hook to a PC and see everything and do adjustments there. Plus you can update firmware. So for me I don't need the card for anything but a cable adaptor. :tong

ok, that exactly what i thought. thanks guys!
i figure when im ready to get the brushless setup, i want to know what else to get.
looks like the card is a better option if it can be used either way and is only a few bucks more.

looks pretty easy to use, too.

ok good info in here but here is a question, will most brushless systems handle 2 6 cell packs ? i just dont have the funds to convert to lipo and i have a 3300 fuze system from another truck that i want to put in my other txt that has the titans

some will, some won't
You just need to look at specs to tell.
Many Novak ESC's I'll say no, they only do 8.4v max

You sure you want to run 14 volts? Most guys run just 1 pack for 7 volts.

If you guys are looking for something cheap, you might look into a hobbyking setup. You can get a 120a ESC for less than $40, and they have lots of cheap motor options. Some of them arent the best, but some of their stuff is great.

Im running their 150a ESC and an EZrun 3674sl motor in my Associated Monster GT and its awesome. I dont have the $6 programming card yet, but I will soon. I think its hard to beat their stuff for the price.

so you'll need to pick out a system capable of 14 volts. There are many out there, EZrun has a few, and castle has the mamba max pro, mamba monster.

If your going to run 14 volts then don't go higher than a 2200kv motor and try to get a ''L' can or ''XL'' can, or above/longer than 60mm length can. Long cans get you the torque you want.

hopefully i can get some funds together and get it in there this summer.

im thinking of grabbing a sidewinder or one of those ezruns for my wk, too.
