Motors and pinion recommendation

It has been so long since I set up a clod with new motors and gearing so this is a question for the experts.
What are a good (brushed)motor and pinion combination for wheelie type power off the line and maintain decent top speed?
I have a Novak Super Duty ESC and plan on running a single 7.2 battery. The truck is on the heavy side since it is a steel tube chassis.
This truck is for bashing not racing so I am willing to giveup some speed for all out power. :burn

Thanks
Mike

This is the truck:

Just how heavy is that monster? Nice looking. you may need to me creative on battery placement to aid in the wheelies.

my clod weighs 11.5 lbs but its a hard body radio shack bronco mangler (pushes the COG way up). I couter-balance that with Dcell ni-cd's (mostly for run time) and a lowered suspension, and i can still pull the front end up with 17 turn single wind sapphires.

you might play with truck height (raise the shock monting point) this will also help with extended wheelies. oh and a drag bar set just past the point where the truck just sits in the wheelie position helps

What motors are those in your truck, Monster Mash? If so, they are 16 x 1 motors. I would drop your pinion to 10 or 11, should give you more torque off the line. Also upgrade your battery to either a 8.4V or 9.6V

Your motors maybe just too old. You can rebuild them or get some new ones. I personally run between 13 - 15 turns.

Next thing to look at is possible stiffening up the rear suspension.

Thanks stang that is the info I'm looking for.
These mototrs are Monster Mash motors.I bought a truck off E-bay and these are what came with. I plan on relplacing these I just haven't dealt with motors and gearing in so long I fogot what was better more turns or less turns.

Who makes good motors now adays? I have a set of trinity speedgem saphires form 8-10 years ago. These were really nice back then. Is trinity still top in the motor world?

Thanks again for all the responses, I have been out of this for so long I forgot some basic stuff. I appreciate the help.

In my opinion, Trinity is still the best bang for the buck. I've tried the venom racing motors, they are decent. But if you compare a 17 x 2 venom and a 17 x 2 trinity speedgem; the speedgem performs better.

Stang,
So looking at Tower if found these at a decent price.

Trinity SpeedGems Pro Kobal 13T Double Motor $34.99
what pinion would you recommend with this motor.
Thanks Mike

would these give me enough torque to pull wheelies or are they more speed orientated.

Also with the super duty I can run 2 batteries. 14.4 volts is it possible to run speedgems or any motor other than E-maxx motors at this voltage or will it destroy them?

13t is pure speed. Once you drop below 17t, you can pretty much kiss wheely making torque goodbye. 16t or 15t is a nice compromise for speed and power, though.
11v or more will have you changing motors or cutting the brushes and comms every few runs. I'd recommend staying in the 8v-9.4v range like Stangnomore suggested. Just remember remember that more volts = shorter motor life. I recommend that you get very good side-by-side packs. Good batteries make a tremendous difference.

My suggestion would be the Speedgem Titanite 15 Turn Double Motors. Maybe start with the 13 tooth pinion, but have a pair of 11 tooth pinions jsut incase. But even with these motors, I think you need to upgrade (higher voltage) your battery pack.
