Monster axial scrap build

First of all hi. I am new here and no from the US so please bear with me and my English.
Following are a few pictures from my scorpion / madforce hybrid after a couple of afternoons' boredom:D.

I used a set of leftover sideplates from a madforce and made a skid and braces out of 10mm delrin.

Axles are leftovers from a scorpion kit and so is the trans. For the front I removed the locker and installed the gears that came with the RTR. For steering I used a crappy old MG995.
Shocks are also from a scorpion and soon I plan to swap them for some maxx I have laying around.

Tires from a madforce, using HR 25mm extenders then junfac 12 to 14mm adapters and then kyosho 14 to 19mm adapters:rolleyes pfff I lost me.

A shot of the underside. No it does not balance on its' side!

The wiring mess :-(. For the time being I used an mtroniks RV15 esc, an integy 35t lathe and a hobbycity lipo. Gearing is set at 75/26.
This little spur was the sole thing I bought fro this project.

That is how she stands for now with a used proline titan body.

Not bad for a scrap build with total expense of 3$:tmb.

Please share your opinions.

First, welcome to RCMT :tmb

I like the build, did something similar recently though I spent more. :)

For mounting wheels sometimes instead of adapters try http://www.rcmt.biz/bd/showthread.php?t=15203

Your build is excellent only costing $3.00 So, how does it run??

oh, your English is just fine, I had no trouble understanding you. :wnk

-nice setup, way to recycle!!! The only concern I have is the wideners + the big ol' tires, lots of leverage there:willy Still, I like it:)

Thanks for the kind words guys.
It runs nice. A bit slow, around 15 to 20 km/h, close to a stock wheely king.
I have an old 550 LRP truck motor I might throw in there.
Only issues so far are:
A) I keep popping the rear driveshaft after jumps,
B) I already broke one knuckle in the steering arm, so I might put a set of 3racing alloys I have sitting,
C) The wheels keep coming loose, normal with all these adapters and
D) I occasionally pop the front shock caps after bad landings.

Not too shabby I guess.

William I thought about trying the wheel gluing mod but I am not so confident about my aligning skills:).

Trick is to find wheels that fit well together, like most 2.2 wheels fit tight in a clodbuster wheel. Makes it harder to mess up. :wnk

This weekend I finally trusted my gluing skills and went ahead with the 2.2 clod mod from the sticky. They came out nice. William was right, it is very hard to mess this process up. They came out quite true.

Went with some 3Racing knuckles I had laying around, since they were the only part that was giving me grief along with the rear driveshaft.

Also got a cheapo Proline C-10 long bed and painted it a simple two tone job. I just had to replace that crappy Titan.

Finally I replaced the 35T lathe with an LRP 550 8 6 motor. Also I burned, or so I think, the RV15 and temporarily put in there an LRP AI reverse.
That is all for now.

that's looking real good :tmb

Glad the wheel deal worked for you, I like doing it, it's so easy. :)

Yeah, it was easier than I thought, I was a bit more afraid than I should:).
With the added width I also installed the revo shocks and now handles like a champ. I will make a vid as soon as possible.

So far I have only broken one plastic knuckle, one tranny output and I keep on popping the rear driveshaft in jumps.
I went with some leftover 3racing knuckles and steel outputs and I intend to fit a revo shaft in the rear to fix the popping issue.
And at some point I should get of my lazy 00000 and shoot a vid:tong.
Thanks for the good words guys!

Great build from just your leftovers,I think Integy makes a cover for the driveshaft so it won't pop out...JohnnySr

I like seeing the crawler/mt crossover builds... shows more an more that MT racing can evolve.

Just a suggestion from experience, as you add faster more powerful motors, the 48p spurs will start failing. Switch to 32p and save yourself some money and effort. The old traxxas pede gears fit the axial trans as do the duratrax evaders.

I was intending to go 32p mostly to use the 5mm pinions. I have a motor here that needs to find a home but it has a 5mm shaft.
I also solved the popping shaft issue with an RC4WD punisher shaft that I scored over at RCC. Only thing now is I broke the gears in the MG995.
That is a new one!!!
