For those that don't know, we (RCSoup) are building up a race clod for clodapalooza.

http://www.rcmt.net/forums/showthread.php?23603-Road-to-Clodapalooza-is-official!

I'm wondering what a good motor would be to run for competition? Would I be ok with a 4900kv motor? I think most people run 5700, but I'm not currently working with Castle for this.. and the 4900 is the highest KV Motor they have.. I kind of need input really quick so I can shoot off a reply.

Thanks guys!

PS, having never raced clods.. I don't need the fastest setup.. but I'd like it to still it to be decent for whoever wins it in the raffle..

I think anywhere between a 4600kv to 5700kv (13T pinions) motor is fine. I have both of these setups and I am very satisfied with both. No temp problems. These are castle systems.

I also have the castle 3800kv 4-pole motor and I think it's poo poo slow- I have geared it up (15T pinion) and advanced the timing and it's ok but me no likey. The motors stay nice and cold but it's just out of reach when compared to other setups.

In addition I have a 6000kv setup from ez-run and that is very doable and fast. No motor temp problems or anything. Running 13T pinions

My experience is that Castle doesn't know much about clod setups- so I would check here before I go asking their advice. I am not saying that I don't like their products... I do like their products very much but when it comes to setting up for a clodbuster- I check with homebase- rcmt.net

The setup I am looking at would be thru Associated/Reedy. It's still a work in progress whether or not they'll do it..

I do agree tho.. I like to ask here first.

You can always step up a tooth or 2 to get more top end with the 4900s. I have 2 Clods running Castle 5700kv with 13T and a truck running generic 5250kv with 14T and top end and starting torque is about the same on all of them.
