im working on a project with pede trans and wheely king axles.
im wondering if i should lock the pede tranny.
im thinking it might need it, but ive never done it before.i will probably lock the rear axle diff; not sure if that matters much for this question.
this is just for a basher, so what do you guys think?

you have to lock the trans. Otherwise power will only go to the axle with the least traction. Like if it has enough power to pull a wheelie, as soon as the front tires leave the ground, the rear will loose all the power. And if you have open diffs in the axles, all it will take is 1 tire to leave the ground and the other 3 will be dead as the one in the air will get the pull brunt of the motor. You will hate it.

So at the minimum, lock the trans.

It's not hard to lock up a pede. It's really no different than locking an axle. Just take it apart, the take apart the diff it'self. There is a number of things you can do to lock it, most common is JB Weld, but that is perminate. I personally use hot glue. Have not had a failure of the "glue locker" yet either. But you need to really clean out the diff and degrease it so it is bare clean metal. (so ya, I guess i did have 1 failure, but that was cause it wasn't done right the first time)

The first time I locked it, I left most the grease in, just took aout the majority but everything was still coated. The "glue locker" failed with in the first pack or 2. Thats when I cleaned everything really good and did it again. Been holding for a few years now.

thanks offroad!
everything you said is exactly what i thought.
i always need confirmation though!

also, with the pede i think you can just use extra bevel gears to lock it.
either way, the locking wont be the hard part of the project!

Ya, I thought there was a way with moving or using extra gears but I didn't want to say anything cause I was unsure and didn't want to give wrong info.

I filled 1 with ca glue, took 2 weeks to dry :bang but when dry was bullitproof. Oh, seemed heavy too. The hot glue works, but has to be super clean of grease/oil or it fails easily.

Silly putty

I have gotten trucks that have had the diffs locked with Silly putty. Its cheap. Easy to do and easily removed. These were "normal diffs" with side gears. I dunno if Silly Putty would work with the diff style of a stampede though. A ball diff can be used but is $$ and not as good as locking it. But if you have like a revo or emaxx diff you wanna lock and maybe unlock cram it full of silly putty. Bill

If you keep an eye out on the bay. There is a guy that makes a really nice locker for the pede tranny. I have bought a couple and they work good. I looked just now but he doesn't have any listed at the moment.

You have to watch out if you use that method. I don't know about the pede trans, but people have used that method on TXT diffs have had the bevel gears partially eaten up. They still held up in the locked position but couldn't be used as an open diff(which is why you would do it this way) without replacing the bevel gears.
