I like to tinker and this is my latest result. I was going for CHEAP, LIGHT and SIMPLE- so I started with a ESP swaybar kit from my old Zilla II chassis. I wanted to use the sway bars as lower links but did not want to go through the trouble of putting threads on the end to mount the rod ends. Instead the swaybar goes through the ball end of the rod end with 1/8" shaft collars securing the swaybar on either side of the rod end. Similary I used the 1/8" collars and 1/8" plastic cable clamps from ACE hardware to mount the shocks to the swaybar 'links'.
As for the rest of the chassis, the horizontal and vertical supports are the 4-link extentions from the old Zilla II and the lower and upper plates were cut from some old pancar chassis' I had layin around. I must say that when I first saw those Defiance upper link mounts, I thought PERFECT! - I knew I had to get a set- for they would set the look of the truck as much as anything else. The tires are custom shaved Tmaxx on RPM stablemaxx rims.
Last but not least I did a simple behind the axle steering system. I have the TTR's BTA on my brushless Clod and like it a lot- but though I could come up with something simple and CHEAP for this project. I simply put the dremel to an unused stock peice (the triangular shaped metal part with the three tapped holes- I believe, used in mouting the stock platic lower links to the stock Clod chassis?) and used that to mount the servo at a angle on top axle support to get good steering geometry to both sides. A long and SLIM Traxxas turnbuckle ties the steering knuckles together behind the axle.
There is just this thing with Clods that I like, can't explain... but anyway here are a some pics of my 'Ninja' Clod as I call it - because it likes to do double backflips
