We were at dinner and an elderly man dropped to the floor!
He was choking and had no pulse for about three minutes.
My little sister is a doctor; she jumped up and started doing chest compressions.
Within about a minute she had him straightened out.
Paramedics arrived a few minutes later... No way he could have survived!
He was completely purple when I first saw him.
I can't believe that my baby sister can stay cool through that.
She totally saved his life.

Yeah, between that and her new puppy (if you saw my Facebook) she's a keeper!
I've always been proud of her and I know she saves lives all the time, but seeing it is different.
It was quite an emotional event... I've never seen someone nearly die.

Your sister is awesome :tmb
I bet that being calm in situations like that, comes with the training to be a doctor.
She probably was so concentrated on saving the guy's life, that she didn't even think about being scared.
It's one of those times when you have to just take action and ya don't have time to do anything else but do what needs to be done.

Yeah, she's been "training" for the last twelve years...
Nine years of school and three years of residency.

As for the old fella, he was quite happy!
He told her he loved her.

That is great to hear and it must've been a sight to see Joe. There really isn't a greater deed than saving a life. That's why I donate blood semi-regularly(would be more regular if it wasn't so far to the blood bank), am an organ donor(although I know there's other stuff they can do with my donated organs), and I've been on the bone marrow donor registry since I turned 18(one of the first 100 here in Hawaii.

That's the most amazing thing to see first hand!! Movies and the tele don't do it justice. You should be very proud of her Joe!(we all know you are; just sayin) :tmb:tmb for sis!!

I am with you Kent; I do the same thing here; and would like to think in some small way I have saved a life.

I got a call at work today from the guys friend.
turns out he called the restaurant to see if they knew the Dr., the manager is our friend (its an italian restaurant- foggetaboutit!)
he told me the ol' guy was celebrating his 88th birthday and that he is doing great.
stayed one night at the hospital, no broken ribs or anything, and doesnt even remember choking.

joe- i just thought about it now, but might not be a bad idea for you and the wife to take a cpr class if you guys havent done so already...babies put all sorts of stuff in their mouth...when you sign up for one, check to see if they cover infants and children...
