Just Got An E-Savage

I finally bought a used one on quite a good deal. Came with wider hex's aswell as carbon fibre chassis plates.

I have a few questions.

1) Does the stock drivetrain hold up to brushless well? If not, what parts fault.

2) Is there aftermarket battery boxes to hold 7 cells rather than 6. If they need to be modified to hold 7 cells what's the best way to do this without having the batterys falling out.

3) Does anyone know of lipo packs that can fit into the stock battery holders? If so could i have a link please.

4) Someone mentioned on another forum "removing the flux" from the motors to get a bit more kick. What is the flux?

5) Before i go brushless i plan on using a Novak Super Duty ESC coupled with some 700 sized Kershaw motors. Will these be a vast improvement over stock in regards to torque? I'm not too fussed with speed.

E-savages are pretty cool trucks. I traded one for my Clod. :)madMine was in way better shape, but that's another story.)

1. No, the diffs (usually)need to be shimmed and/or changed to the upgraded (depending on truck's age) units to handle regular power. The slider shafts break too, but Traxxas shafts fit and hold up better.

2. I think Generis/GCM(?) makes all sorts of stuff for this truck; maybe battery holders or straps.

3. Orion?

4/5. I never tried anything other than stock, but they seemed to have plenty of torque. Tighten the slipper and you've got wheelies on demand. The flux rings are the metal sleeves around the motors. (Like an E-Maxx) I think you're supposed to get more rpm's and less torque if you remove them.

I'm a bit out of the loop so maybe check here:

Hi guys, I too have an e-savage. Love that little truck, tough as nails and quick out of the box. I can keep up to an e-maxx with 700HO motors with my stock 550s and 2 7 cells! Big proble with them is diff output bevels & drive shafts break often, upgrading to revo 6mm diff output bevels helps a lot and so does converting to e-maxx style drive shafts & hubs (thicker and stronger).

GCM is the place to go for e-sav hops up. Great parts, great service and fair pricing too. I have some of there parts and will be converting my e-sav suspension to the wider ex-arm set up with cvds. All the reviews I have read so far have been postive.

I run a 7 cell set up with an evx-2, 2 traxxas heat sinks (1 on each 550 motor), some assorted GCM parts, maxx size proline mulchers and rpm rims. Off set rims are highly recommended for this little truck.

Oh, about the flux that is the ring on the motors...don't remove it...does not help at all and it will shorten the life of the motors. Just remove the stickers from each motor can, add thermal paste and add some Traxxas villan ex heat sinks for cooling. It helps big time. If running a stock ESC, add a cooling fan. It helps alot too.

I got a few parts for it since

1) Pick up style Savvy shell, so i don't trash the bug one

2) New rear diff and shims, because it's pretty chewed

3) Kershaw hardened centre driveshaft kit

4) Kershaw non HO 700 sized motors

5) 2 x side by side Elite 5000mah packs

6) deans all around

7) Stainless steel spur gear with upgraded slipper spring

8) Novak Super Duty

Still having major problems locating a UK seller for the Maxx style driveshafts as i snapped an HPI one, but no success and far to expensive to buy outside UK.

Will eventually go for a Fieago 8XL (sp) motor and Mamba max with UBEC

Hey Hardcore, I was running maxx shafts until this week (I just went to a GCM ex arm and CVD set-up). The Maxx shafts worked really well and although they still would break it would be way less often.

Since you are running 700 type motors, I think you should just skip the maxx shafts altogether and just move to the CVDs (less money in the long run). You may also want to pick up a couple of GCM diffs. They will really help with durability.

The GCM parts are really expensive for me just now because the ? to $ conversion is really bad.
I'm gonna opt for the Kershaw Design CVD's if i have to buy from the USA because i don't want to increase the width or length of my savvy and this is the alternative as the GCM ones are for the wide wishbones.

With the 2 x 700 motors i have just now i plan just to use 2 x Elite 6 cells so i won't have monster performance, just marginally better than stock.

I plan to go for 8 or 9xl shortly so i can ditch a lot of weigh which i'm hoping will help the drivetrain last a few more runs each time.
