Jps Gear Cases In Sport Mod?

The JPS gear cases will not be legal since they are not factory equipment.

"Gearboxes must be OEM Replacement gearbox halves only"
---Rule #1 Pg 36 of the rule book for Sport Mod.
I am just curious what the deal is with this rule? I dont see how having JPS gear boxes is going to make a difference? So are they indeed illegal? I really didnt want to run this truck in the modified class as I dont want something to happen to all the nicely anodized parts.... so if they are truely illegal what class would you guys recommend for this truck???

thanks

Mike,
The rule was intended that any truck in the sport mod class could only use Tamiya gear cases, It was for several reasons.
There is no reason to get into a debate on why the rules are the rules.

You don't want anything to happen to the nicely anodized parts. What difference would it make what class you run in the only thing that would scratch a gearcase is your driving style.

What class should you run in that's up to you, you have Modifed or Open.

Im not trying start any trouble Al :( so I hope no one is taking it that way...I just really dont see the issue with running a jps gear case, I mean its using the same internals and everything and yes its has adjustable motor mounts but they tech the pinion anyways and I can actually just leave the covers off which makes it even easier for it to be tech'd. I could see if it had the option to change gearing (other then pinion) or had some other edge over a stock gear box..

The reason why I wanted to run it in sport mod is that its the truck isnt nearly as fast as the modified trucks and I feel like I have more control over it and I am less likely to catch the gear boxes or some other part on something. Even when I run it at the Bradenville MJ I run it in the spec class which has similiar rules....

Well I wasnt trying to stir anything up, I was just wondering the reasoning behind the rule...so I guess the 13 turns are going back into it...ill just have to be really careful with it... :banghead

In the end I guess it is what it is :willy
Thanks

Mike I understand you were not trying to start anything nor was I trying to imply that you were, you were trying to understand why.
As I said in my reply there were several different reasons the decision was made to stay with OEM kit gear cases.

The class in my opinion is a spec class and everyone using the same gear cases is a part of it.
I'm sure when you get to the event and ask the question you will get several different opinions.

You and the family be safe getting there and have a great time, don't allow rules or the reasons behind them to spoil any part of the weekend.

The first rule of the day is to Have Fun ......................................

The teching process was not even thought of when the rules were drawn up and to help prevent loose ends and loop holes, we felt keeping the stock tranny cases as the only legal cases was a wise decision. It was partially a way to control cost of the trucks as well. It was also to help prevent using different pinions since they have adjustable motor mounts.

Mike, we do run most of the same clfreds from the NRCTPA at our Bradenville, PA races. The big difference between the two when it comes to rules is that we strip them down to make it easy on everybody. Bare minimum I guess you could say. You've been to our races and you know we aren't out for blood. That makes a BIG difference in how you set up the rules for racing.

Thanks Mike for clearing it up, I guess I was seeing the adjustable motor mount thing as not being a problem because you can run the gear cases with the covers off (which if you were able to run them maybe make that a rule, "when using JPS gear cases, pinion cover must be removed for pinion teching") I guess it does make it easier to run a different pionion other then what your suppose to if you know what I mean :roll The way I was thinking is that since they are using the same gears internally it wouldnt be a big deal but the rules are the rules. I loved the 1st NRCPTA event I attented and I am AMPED for the worlds but I think the MJ will always be my favorite only because its a little bit more laid back. Although, I must say the NRCTPA events are the SMOOTHEST run events I have been too (other then the MJ) because I have done local events and they have been a bit of a disaster :willy .

Well I am rebuilding the 13 turns to put back in the executioner truck and I am just going to run it in the modified class.

The NRCTPA has had it's share of disasters :ack Not getting into that though :willy I agree, the type of races at Bradenville will always be my favorite race format but to race against the best, you gotta go where they are.
