a few years back when i had a certain ford street truck(lightning) i used to go do a little street racing. once night went up to the local old guys spot and heard about a race going on the next evening. i didnt believe what everyone was saying so i had to check it out.
the next night went out to this abandoned train station parking lot and waited around for a few hours with some of my buddies and the local guys. the guy who was suppose to race was a very low 9 sec rx7 with a small block chevy motor on a bit old hit of nitrous. after about an hour we got a call stating the guy was 10 min away with the car and would be arriving shortly.
well, an hour or so passed and in comes the parade of virginia racers and an odd pickup with a trailer. on the trailer was a car under a sheet. once pulled up negotiations began with a stipulation that the car needed to be revealed before any money exchanged hands. well after the bet was made(a cool 5k, no **** a lot of money) the guy ripped sheet off and low and behold an original 69 dart BIW mopar factory car. blown big block sticking out under the black scoop in the hood. it was an actual factory lightweight car that you really only hear about and never actually see. this guy still raced this thing.
well after an hour of arguing the race they lined up and when the flashlight dropped it felt as if the earth stopped and rotated backward. ive never seen two cars of that magnitude at our local middle of nowhere spot. It was the race that you only hear about from someone else and i somehow got the opportunity to see it unfold.
ill just say the rx7 won but by a nose hair and a little extra nitrous

that race to this day is still legend among my buddies and every time we go to the local non-racing hotspot we still hear stories when the RX7(buddy of mine) rolls in. he is legend along with that factory lightweight and ever since that day i have the utmost respect for the dart. dodge has my vote for a RWD, big engine dart again
