I believe the Clod Buster is selling pretty good again. They always sell decent, but I believe theres kinda this new interest in them. I own a hobby shop inside my 4x4 shop and kinda keep up with whats going on with mainly the monster truck scene! Sure T-Maxx's and Revo rule, or at least at my shop, and Stampede's sell strong, but it seems more and more peeps ask about whats up with the Clod's.

I also keep any eye on my whse.'s inventory, and both seem to be moving some Clods maybe a little more lately! I personally believe alot of the reason is there is a re-newed spark in electrics now with the awesome motor and battery technology we have! Look at my name for instance, I got into the hobby 30 years ago, and about 20 years ago started messing with Nitro's, and then thats all I did.

Until about 5 years ago, I wouldn't waste my time with an electric, and the newer nitro's really added to that closed thinking I had! Sure I had owned Clods since they came out, just cause they looked the closest to the real thing, but I never really went all out with any. Now we have super sweet batt's to chose from, and endless power options! I got on the Lipo bandwagon a long, long time ago with my Micro Heli's, so I've been used to them way before the car/truck scene started using them and now they have really made runtime and power just incrediable!

I guess i'm really just saying I think this re-newed interest in electrics is great for the hobby, and especially the Clods because I hope it keeps the King of Monster trucks alive and well for years/decades to come! Chime in with your Clod thoughts if you have any to add! :wnk

that is certainly good to hear. I personally believe the Clod will be here for a long time. Most especially now they released the Chrome edition and with ESC to boot.

Go Clod go!

i had been interested in them since i was a kid. just never could afford one. now that im just a BIG KID at 35. i can finally afford one......well now 3 in just a short time. my brother-in-law just saw my stock one and went home jumped on the puter and bought one. it is just a fun truck to build however you want. i have been on other forums asking about them and people are telling me that i should get something else. they say they arent made for bashing or jumping and stuff like that. i asked them if they have ever owned one and they have just seen them around. of course they say to get a pede or revo or something to that effect. i just told them to get one and see the possibiltys you can do to one. i believe they will be around for quite some time.

I have no clue what other people are into, but all I know is that I've been into Clods since 1987 and absolutely no other forms of R/C cars or trucks have held my interest nearly that long. Even the nitro stuff when that became popular in the 1990s didn't do it for me. (I love flat torque curves.)

I bought my first Clod even before spare parts were available from MRC/Tamiya and I don't regret it one bit.

i think also because now that tamiya sells the axles sets might also be helping. my hobby shop now sells the clodbuster and axle sets. and they are selling pretty good.

Clods have been a niche market since the RTR fad (at least I hope it's a fad!) started. You used to be able to walk into most hobby shops and find a Clod sitting there. Now, more often than not you get a strange look if you ask for a Tamiya part.

A stock Clod compared to todays group of RTR trucks doesn't always draw people to them. Seeing a modified Clod sitting on a counter sure does though. Faster and better handling than the original, people like them because they perform closer to the real thing.

I also want to say that the events with Clod racing, specifically the IL group, go a long ways towards getting people excited about Clods again. Getting photos and videos up quickly after events just continues to bring new people towards wanting a Clod.

As long as Tamiya keeps supplying parts for us, there will be enough aftermarket support there that you could build an entire truck through aftermarket parts alone!

I was interested years ago when I couldn't afford to play seriously. I am just now getting back into clods. I agree that racing groups help spark the interest. Seeing the pics and videos from the IL events as well as others has got me wanting to get something going again up here in MN. I actually found a couple guys close to me that want to get their old Bennett and ESP race clods going again. Come one come all!

Yeah the racing and vid's help a ton! Its funny, but in my shop like most others probally, the Nitro's are most of the interest. Peeps usually don't even wanna talk electric much, but when they see the 70+mph marked on the Rustler box, they automatically think its Nitro! You tell them thats electric and they say "what?" :shk

Of course we know thats expensive batt's and geared to the moon to go the 70mph, but 45mph on 7cells easy! Now you're in the Nitro speed range without breathing hard and less hassle for some! More peeps are getting interested in electrics, and that can only help spark new interest in the Clods. I've had modded Clods setting on my counter, and again, they walk over to that truck just thinking right off its gotta be Nitro cause all their buddy's run Nitro's, so its just gotta be! :laugh

I showed a few last week some Youtube vid's of Modded Clods racing and they freaked! Man, those are realistic as crap, and fast! Hopefully by next week I'll have another sweet Clod for them to check out, as I just ordered all the CPE stuff friday to build a Twin BL Clod!

I hope the Clod is alive and well but I always get a weird reaction when I ask for Clod parts at my LHS...most of the time I hear "I haven't seen a Clod in years..." or why are building one of those??? Almost like RC snobbery..LOL!

I really like the Clods, there are other newer kits out there that are fun too but there is something special about a Clod....

I just wish Tamiya would do something really special and launch a really improved Clod with something like a new hard shell 2009 Chevy truck body, upgraded steering system, improved suspension components, dual battery/dual motor ESC, upgraded motors, and a revised chassis designed based on the original. Keep the authentic look, just with a modern twist...like a restomod Clod! Now that would be super cool.

Oh i agree! When i go to the hobby shop i ALWAYS bring the Clod! I've called the hobby shop numerous times about parts and they're like a Whatbuster? Its like 100% nitro at my hobby shop so when people see it they're like what the heck is that? A custom MGT? I normally have to exlpain a lil which is fine by me! haha Oh and when you say it runs 2 motors, peoples eyes get massive and say like Daang man! must be fast!! haha i love clods. Its the truck that got me into the hobby. Thanks for the comments about us guys in Illinois! It's awesome to be a part of such a killer group!!!:tmb ClodOrDie!

Tamiya now sells the axles separately from the Super Clod Buster kit? Do you happen to know what the Tamiya part number is for the axles alone?

...now they sell them separately after I've been begging for them for what...10+ years? :D
