How to do a lift for 2.2's

Alright, I remember seeing a bunch of threads on lifting the hilift, and now that I'm actually gonna do it I cant find any.. Is it just a matter of putting another spacer between the leafs and axles? Then do I have lower the shock mounting hole? and the sriveshafts will be fine? I prefer do the lift at the axles than the body. Lastly, does anyone know if HPI rims fit te HL? Thanks

as long as wheels are 12mm hex they should fit

Blocks between axle and leafs...
You'll need longer screws, these are plenty long enough and you can cut with dykes after if needed.

You may need to drill holes lower in your shock towers for the stock shocks.

driveshafts will extend fine, and still not bind up either

You may also want to make a anti wrap, or torque bar for the rear axle.

I have a pic here of a torque bar

I fit 2.2s with revolver rims and imex g hawgs under it, I upgraded to the tg 10 axles like a lot of the tlt guys do other wise it will be hard to get the nut to stay on the axle, then I bought some longer screws and some aluminum tubing and raised the part that holds the front body and the rear bed swivil see the pics below.

I have not painted the body it has been to cold but with it mocket up the tires only rub the bottom step bar when it is fully turned and then it is only very slight.

any lhs carries the k&s or other stuff, even an auto parts store carries brake line that you could use for tubing spacers

in all honesty, the axle block method looks better, and raises the center of the truck, a tubing body lift does not.

You could do a bit of both :tmb

Yeah, I wanted to do it at the axles because whats the point of just lifting the body and keeping ground clearance the same? But I put some 2.2 geos on my 350 and I dont think it even needs a lift.. I'd like to do one anywyas, but dont wanna worry about making a track bar. I dont even really understand what axle wrap is??

the springs get twisted up when you get stuck and give it gas

Eversee a mustang w/ wheel hop? Older mustangs and novas had bad wheel hop

crysler put extra leafs on the right rear spring to prevent hop and axle wrap

Ford and GM guys used to stagger the shocks, worked better on the nova than the mustang, mustangs still hopped until you redid the spring pack stiffer and had a rougher ride

that cutter is a liitle on the light duty side, you can grab up a better, stronger at a local hardware store for similar money

I like this tube, thick walls http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXS021&P=7

I stand by a suspension lift is better than a body lift, any day :trk
William is right you can get better cutters at the hard ware store I have an all metal one and the aluminum tubing he recomended will work I found the one I used it is

I had it left over from the links I made up for my juggernaut to replace the stock plastic ones. I think the body lift is nice because you dont get into messing with the steering but I agree that a axle lift is more scale. (even thou I am still tinkering with my steering :)

Hey monsterford, which tg10 axles did you use? Did you use fronts on the front and rears on the rears or rears all the way around or what? Just wanted to know before I ordered them so I got the right ones. I'm puttin on some 2.2 swamp dawgs for the mud pit and want to make sure whatever wheels I go with stay on and don't come off in the middle of the mudhole.

Yeah those are the axles I used (Tamiya 50808) (all the way around) I was hoping to use the TL 01 rear upright extended hex piece to get a little more stance but these revolvers use up a lot of axle and I could not do it, anyone who is planning on using these rims will either have to remove some of the plastic or get the TG 10 axles other wise the nut will not stay on. With HPI rims you can get away with the extenders.

if you want to widen your high lift use tobee craft axles from e-bay but you can't use traxxas or rpm wheels you need to use duratrax, tamiya, or hpi 2.2's

Well I just put a 13t clod pinion gear in the Highlift with the 2.2s and it is much better. It wil pull a wheely by backing it up and stabing the throtle with the stock motor in second gear. It does not seemi like it is straing as much. Just thought Id throw that out there.
