How to create Original Monster Truck "Theme"

So I am in the process of upgrading the ol' Ground Pounder and had the "silly" idea of making and original truck. I see that a lot of the people on here like their trucks to resemble the 1:1 likenesses. Those are all very cool but I kind of want to do something different.

Here's what I got so far:

Name: "________________"

Color scheme: Black, Red, White, Grey (Silver)

Body: Parma 78 El Camino (subject to change)

So how did they Big Boys come up with their trucks?

I wish more people were into this. Replicas are cool and have their place, but after you have seen what seems like the hundredth Bigfoot or Digger replica body it just gets stale. I love the concept of MT's having identities with themes to back them up and make them real. It just feels right to see a truck with a cool name and the details to compliment it and its even cooler when you know it's unique to that person.

When it comes to creating a theme, there really is no right or wrong way IMO. You can draw from literally anything to make one. Music, movies, TV, literature, nature.. anything. Once something comes to mind and seems right for a theme you build from there. The colors and graphics, even the type of body you need to run can all help tie it together and make it come to life. It sounds like you have that part down, just need to figure out what those colors and that body bring to mind when you think about things you like.

I built a clod a year or two ago that was for my Father's company. Terry @ The Monster Factory painted the body for me and it turned out great. Recently it was lost in the **** that is the USPS service, so I feel like I lost a one of a kind creation.

You have me thinking now....! I have a truck that I am building and am about to paint the body.... I could make it a theme of the business I work in... Great idea!

Draw from whatever you like. Mo's Big Daddy inspired build might be the coolest MT I have ever seen. Whatever you are into...go for it.

Just go for it. Doesn't matter what it is. As long as you like it and can turn it into something, that's all that matters.

Wow I didn't expect for this thread to "take off" quite like it has.....Yippie :cool

I kind of want to stay away from the obvious things like my fav sports teams (Iowa Hawkeyes, New Jersey Devils, New Orleans Saints, Chicago White Sox - Yes I know it's a strange collection).

I suppose I could base it on my screen name, which is a take on my AOL Screen name that I create many many years ago, but it may be silly to see a middle age **** with a truck called RAZDAWG...heh heh heh

I do have an affinity for dogs through........maybe something along those lines???

Is there a good database of real Monster Truck names as I want to be as original as possible.

What i did for my classic truck was pick an old truck thats not to famous but is cool. I picked the Name "Car Killer" which was and old truck with tracks(tank style:cool) it was a silvery grey colour with a red stripe (I think) so i took colours i like an painted those then put Car Killer on the side. I may make another based of the Godzilla truck.:cool
heres a pic of the body from when i first painted it (i know it dosn't say car killer on it) i might take a pic tonight to show you how much i smashed it up:emot100::emot100::emot100:

Here are a few images I messed with when I was going to get some custom tags for my Astor a40 headphones.

Maybe they could be the start of a theme? Note that the original graphics were found by google search, I add some colors and lettering with my trial version of Paintshop.

Ok so after some thought I am going to use either "Backyard Beast" or "DawgStarr". Both would have some type of canine theme to the graphics. Now I just have dust off the primative art skill I have and try to come up with at least a rough sketch so I can at least give a real artist an idea of what I am thinking.

Did any of you imagine up your own "original'?

I like Backyard Beast fwiw.

I am currently working on Buccaneer - a pirate theme. I love pirates and have a few things happening in Adobe and Kevin with vinyl 7 is gonna print for me.
