Hop up hot list?

Hey guys, after scanning untold pages of Wheely King goodies I just can't decide what to get. For sure, aluminum knuckles, C-hubs, upper link mounts, and possibly RC4WD's rear straight axle kit. This WK will be my climber/trail runner, so a more scale looking chassis is also on the list. The MFM one I have is ok, just not the best looking, IMO. I already have the lower links (home made) so that part is covered. It would be great if we could get all the best stuff listed in one place, since alot of you have some upgrades and know what's worth buying. Anyone care to jump in and voice your choice?

I really like the ripper7 chassis for the WK, but you can easily put a TCS chassis with an axial tranny instead of the weaker WK unit.

The TCS chassis is currently out of stock, which is just my luck since I have the money now:ack. The Axial tranny is on my list as well. What size are the outdrives on it? I also want some aluminum link mounts, not sure which company to buy them from though, there's a few out there. I gotta get this thing beefed up, spring is on it's way! And before I spend all the cash...

axial output is 5mm from transmition
A piece of brass tube with a slot cut for setscrew on the flat will allow a 6mm shaft to work. :wnk

I just ordered the straight axle adaptors from rc4wd, but not the axles. I'm assuming these will work just fine with the stock ones? Eliminating the u-joint stocker axles would be better, but I guess I'll see how this goes for now. Anyone else have these? Let me know what you think of them.

I grabbed some of the axle shafts for my axial, I'd think the shaft would be the better deal to be more bullit proof. I also have the adaptor part on the other truck, I'm not so sure it would be strong enough to jump without the shaft.

I still need upper and lower mounts. Any suggestions?

Troy.
I have some integy WK upper mounts I grabbed from e-pay. Look nice, have not installed yet though.

Thanks Will :tmb. Did all our other Wheely King hopper-uppers abandon us? Hmmm, maybe they're all out bashin' their trucks.

I "hacked" a steering servo mount out of a scrap of aluminum, it works but I guess I could add a store bought one to my list. Mine didn't look real pretty:ack.
I covered all the electronics on my basher King with balloons (black, of course!) so I can go out tomorrow and thrash some more snowbanks, and parts surf later.

I think it's just awesome that your girl likes rc'ing, way to go, Dad :tmb.

Cute story:

The kid I let run my WK 2 weeks ago showed up today at the track sportin' a brand new truck, what a happy kid he was! Unfortunately, they don't "race" well but he gave it his best effort. When the servo saver broke (no surprise there) he looked like he was gonna start to cry. I told him what he needed, and when he came back with the part (spent his own b-day money on it) he asked if I would put it in for him. Of course I said yes, and the ear to ear smile was back! Kinda made my day:).

Hey Troy

You definitely have to get these Ring and Pinion gears on the wish list:

https://rcpcrawlers.com/product.php?productid=786&cat=23&page=1

Im sure you've seen them before, I have them in both axles - I didn't read the bit that says they lock the diffs though.... transformed my WK off road ability, but my WK now has the turning circle of a full size car though!

I just the Liquidrc links you put up - they ship to the UK for 99c!!!! My prayers are answered :tmb:tmb

Just charged up my batteries going out for a run with a massive hangover :willy:willy

Thanks A5, I did see those but wasn't sure if they were worth the asking price. I also drooled over that Team Carnage tube chassis they have pictured, way cool. As far as LiquidRC goes, I've never dealt with them before but 99 cent shipping is a huge plus! I'll let you know if it was money well spent or not:tong.

They're definitely worth it if you trash diff gears at the rate I do. They do seem as tough as they say they are with the added bonus of locking the diff. Also makes it easy to 'unlock' the diff by just refitting stock components.

Yeah, we had a great father - daughter weekend. It was building and crawling on Saturday, and then we raced our new Tamiya M-03M Suzuki Swift on Sunday. She raced in the junior class and we ran the same car. Luckily there were a few races in between ours so that we could do tweaking and repairs to the car. (Servo saver, steering rod, broken axle, etc.) This was the first time that either of us had actually raced at a real event. In the words of my daughter "It was an awesome weekend!"

On Saturday we also met Gerame (Eritex Inc. on the Rc Crawler website). He makes some great bead lock wheels for a decent price (about $80 for a set of four, $39.99 a pair). He's working on some new ones with an offset specific for the WK axles. He also working on some that are adjustable to 4 different offsets depending on how you screw them together. The other item of interest is the servo mounts for the WK. He said that those should be ready in about 2 weeks.

I'm still looking for a servo mount I like, I'll have to check that one out. Now it's the agony of waiting for all the goodies to arrive:ack.

Sounds like you two had fun at the track, that's great! Where I race, it's definitely a family oriented event, all classes are open to anyone regardless of experience. It gets a lil crazy sometimes, but I always have a blast :tmb.

*update* The RC4WD straight axle adaptors arrived Monday (fast shipping!). Very nice pieces, great fit and finish and quite beefy, too. Can't wait to test them out.

My TCS X-Trail chassis arrived, along with some other goodies:). The Integy upper alum. mounts, Hot Racing C-hubs and knuckles came also. The alum. upper links are on back order. I didn't order the hardware package with the X-Trail, so I need some spacers. Is there a prefered width to run? Or just wide enough to fit everything inside? My current MFM chassis uses 2.75" spacers. Curious minds want to know...

spacers, you mean to set the frame width?

Get the axial tree with the trans mount and battery plate mount for about 8 bucks. That'll set you up nicely.

Or
I can measure mine and you can make something from tubing and all-thread

Thanks Will :). Not sure what I'll come up with yet. I could always use the MFM crossmembers till I figure it out since I'll have to take everything apart anyway. Still looking for an A-10 trans, last time I looked they were out of stock.
