ive been thinkin bout tryin my hand at a custom build. what i am wondering is if i took origional hilux axles and hooked them up to a stampede trany if it would work right?(im not sure on axle rotation, ive never owned a hilux, but i saw axles for sale and am thinking about buyin em) not sure yet if i would use an old truck chassis for the build or custom make one, and im not sure of the body, but i know i want solid axles with a custom coil over suspension. if yall have any imput or advice about the drivetrain set up let me hear it. this will be my first custom build. if you think i might be getting in over my head, let me hear that too. thanks for yalls imput. ps.. im tryin to make this one look to scale, thats why those axles instead of say tlt axles.

The Hilux axles will work with the pede tranny. as for rotation, it would depend on the direction you installed the tranny as to the proper rotation.
It would be a cool build, but it may get expensive if you want to drive it much!
Good luck with it if you decide to go ahead with it!

yeah, no reason why it wouldnt work, you can prolly even adapt pede sliders to use as driveshafts which gives more flexibility over wheelbase and suspension geometry than the hilux steel shafts or dogbones...

as for getting in over your head, that really depends on how much fabrication you've done up till now and how much you intend to do for this project. if it were me I'd make the 4 links myself on the lathe and fabricate my own chassis so that everything fitted just the way I want it to. on the other hand it may be simpler/easier to buy say a bruiser or hilux frame, buy some 4 links off Devastator2k(he'll make em to order AFAIK) and thats just gonna leave small stuff to make like a batt tray and radio tray....

your only prob with Hilux axles as I see it is they are wider at the back than the front, and you may find it difficult mounting 4 links to em...(equally it may be simple matter of maing some brackets out of L channel alu)

your body choice should be made early on btw as it will greatly effect your choices on wheelbase concerning both the chassis choice and 4 link lengths....

you won't have any issues pede tranny and the axles

hardest part will be your plans for steering and 4 linking the front axle, if you want the servo on the frame that's easier but causes bump steer

you can work it out for minimum bump steer, longer the suspension travel the more bump steer. With le springs it's got limited travel and less bump steer.

The rear is easy to 4 link.

And if you use the hilux/blazer 2.2 wheels from rc4wd the track will be close to equal. See the pics of my yellow blazer with them on it

Thanks for the imput guys. Im gona figure out what body il be using so i can get the lenth i need. I guess i need to find a body i want to use. lol. I hear ya on the bumpsteer issue, right now my thinking is that i will have to live with it if the project goes through. As far as fabing, ive done alittle in the past, never to an r/c truck tho, to my real truck, to furniture, lawn mowers etc... just never on a small scale before, but i look foward to the challenge, not to the headache, cursing, and stomping of the feet, but the overall feeling il get when i finish. lol. I just hope i dont have to do a lot of math, it aint my strong suit. Thanks again for the imput, once i get a few parts in, i think il start layin it all out. But dont expect to see any pictures anytime soon, it would be nice, and i would love to, but time and money are always against me. Scott.
