High-Lift Hilux lifted even more with some 6.25" tires

Hey

I bought the hilux a couple of monthes ago and I liked it.. More like crazy of its capabilities.. First it was fine with its 1.9 tires and stuff.. Had to fit there a bigger 2.2 tires but not so big so I bought some Schumacher 2.2 tires which led to a much evolution in speed and climbing.. I live in a desert so it's a bit hard to find you big enough rock to play on so I enjoy bashing with friends more..

Anyway, I managed to make the 4-link possible, extending the wheel base to 31 point something centimeter and raise the ground clearanse to 6cm minimum and 11cm maximum with the Tamiya Clodbuster's tires..
Had to fabricate the wheel alittle though since it's too costy to buy some spacers..

as you can see the bending of the leaf spring is unforgiving.. more over they are expensive at Tower.. So I uninstalled all of them and stored them in a bag untill I find a way to use them again, which I don't think so in the near or far future :bling ..

The back side was great.. that suspension setup was excllent for bashing

Rear 4-link setup as it is now

The hard part of this was getting everything in place with what I have, which killed 2 days to figure out the best way to do it with less screws and nuts to use.

Clodbuster's tires are the real deal

The car all stretched to 32 cm (12.6") and ready for bashing

It was better to drive and held down a little on the third and didn't flip that much.

Were done at home..

the old 2.2 duratrax cheap wheels fit easily inside the 2.8 of the clod's.

needed a little height and more stiffer suspension setup to comperhence with the whole 'big' thing

Extended vertically :rof .. Damn this sight have made my day that day :ack :rof
Unfortuently that droped the wb to 31 centimeter or 12.2"

Here it is ready to be tested

Unfortuntely it was night so vids are later on youtube.. But the speed was dramatically increased over the 4" schumacher tires and the stockies.. With the combination of the 1st then 3rd gear or 2nd to 3rd with stock motor accelaration, I would say the truck is promising..

Provided that the E-Maxx gear ratio is 18.5X:1, and the hilux is 21.14 on the 3rd, I think it has a fighting chance if I played a little with the pinion and/or spur and installed a strong motor in place of the two titans.. Am thinking the HV Maxx brushless system from Novak.. But since it's a 550 sized I will need to grind some from the gearbox materials.. But it will be a bit too costy and am thinking not to ruin the precious transmission box.. So am thinking Mamba Max 5700 or 4600kV or the Traxxas VXL system since I read and watched some good videos on a single vxl on a maxx and it performed very good, only thermal problems cases which was solved by a second vxl system in series or heavy cooling.. Mentioning that the VXL is 540 sized and will fit with no problem..

Have anyone tried this? A fast brushless system in a Hilux or F-350? I know it wasn;t built for speed and such but I love experimenting. Plus I will prove that the High Lift kit can be for everything :willy not only for scale driving or rock climbing.. Just needed a confirmation from someone who tried this even not on a highlift, so I can proceed, can a single 540 brushless motor power a monster truck like the E-Maxx? I watched vids, I read articles but I need a "yes"..

Some comparing pics..

(the emaxx has its body lifted)

Enjoy

tell me your going to fix the steering rods up front :shk

Looks a lot like an old 1980's monster truck with the clod tires mounted up. :)

The maxx has a suspension better designed for racing than your highlift setup. With your links mounted on the skid plate everything is counting on the plastic mount covering the transfercase. You may want to make some frame mount plates, or see if somebody else still does. There was 1 or 2 who did.

this was mine...

Remember, a lot of thought went into a maxx's design so trying to compete will take some trial and error on your part.

You made into a monster truck. Thats really cool :tmb

I'm curious how well it will hold up, but only time will tell. And like Will said, I hope you fixed that steering rod up front. :wnk

Well yh baby, that's why I went the hard way by buying a Hilux and not an Emaxx :).. Said to my friends I will make this little hilux into an emaxx competetor xD So here I am!
I really liked the frame mount plates idea, which actually am working on currently..

And as for how the car stood out the first test.. Well, the servo mount is weird so it would take like a 15 feet to turn, I need to work this out..
And the tires performed very well, the sillicon held out pretty well unexpectedly..
Also :willy the funny part, my cousine was going 7.5 HV Maxx 16.8 nimh, at full throttle, while it was darking, he rammed me accidently from behind because I turned into him and didn't see him.. CRASSHH :willy The two car flipped and were sliding for like 10 meters till they stopped.. Damage?? the maxx toren the front shock tower and the two front most shocks were bent.. And the Hilux was just fine :tmb
Currently the front drive shaft has loosened and worn out.. So am looking for something else..

Thanks :) >> Don't worry I will solve the servo's problem xD

Sticker shock much?

I love the stance but it seems the Center of gravity might be a bit too high for hill climbing, might need to add wheel weights or become creative on how to move the chassis weight lower by lightening it up or moving bits down like the battery, motor, or electrics.

reminds me of those old modded bruisers with clod wheels

the first couple pics i gotta admit i just said wth did he do to that poor thing with the leafs and everything, but it did turn out to be a pretty cool looking monster truck.

That does look good with the Clod tires on it, gives it that old retro monster truck look. Good job and very creative.:tmb

I thought about doing this with my spare high lift but decided it was easier and better for me to trade it for a TXT. But that looks soo cool!

That brought a smile to my face. I'm probably the first to ever do that. Had a Bruiser about 20 years ago that I had custom wheels made to run Clod tires. I actually was runner up that year in RC Car Action's Reader's Ride of the Year contest with that Bruiser.

Unfortuently, as I and everyone suspected, the cheap rods from thunder tiger I bought didn't hold the pressure it's getting from carrying these tires around :ack , two fronts were broken.. So yes am back on stock suspension set up :-(

Maybe I do this again in the future :)
