I'm a member on more than a few boards like most people. Most are friendly, some not always.

Not pointing any names out I was kind of shocked.

A new member, sounded kind of young was ripped on for asking a ''dumb'' question, and or not using search.

I hope we don't do that here? I don't believe I do?

I honestly believe no question is to dumb, well ok if you are thinking of one then it isn't really isn't is it :willy

Search, yes we have a functioning search, some may not know it. If it's an ongoing question, point them in the right direction, maybe mention briefly we have a search to help next question. At least that seems more hospital.
Then add it to a FAQ, or start one or ask somebody to. It may help the next guy.

I'm know sometimes we forget, or the same question just asked a few days before. But try putting yourself in a ''newbie'' position and if it was you slammed when all you wanted was help... you'd probably never be back.

None of us are perfect, myself included. But I'd like to think on RCMT we try a little harder? Who knows, maybe someday I'll master spelling and no typos :rof Oh, then picture taking... then...:tong

Don't beat your newbies, be kind...

We all used to be in that position, new guy on the board, couldn't find anything. It just makes sense to be nice. I too hope that everyone on this board would be helpful when someone who needs help comes around. Not only on the message board.

Dude I just answer the question again. I mean almost every question has been asked at some piont before. In order to keep the board going you need to have people asking questions and posting pics etc. People neet to feel free to ask a question. Plus if you're new to R/C how are you supposed to know what the 'dumb' questions are? You know what I mean?

I asked tons of 'dumb' questions when I was new. When I got my first electric R/C, a Stampede kit, I had a lot of question as it was only my 2nd R/C and 1st electric. I didn't know what shock spacers were and the back of the truck was sagging like crazy so I asked a bona fide 'dumb' question on how to raise the rear. And I was asking stuff like will these wheels fit? etc. etc.

I barely ever post on rccrawler and barely ever even read over there because everyone is a jerk and I don't like the atmosphere. People in the real world don't behave that way...

I usually point out there is a search function, just in case they don't know and then follow up with my answer/info.

Will, that is why I like it here and over at scale, the only dumb questions are the ones not asked. Both the site have been of a great value to me and I'm happy now to be returning the favor as I can. IMO, these are the 2 best sites on the RC net and it's because of the friendliness of them both.

Now I do browse RCC from time to time, but I only got to a certain few forums and read only a few topics each time. And I use the search. Member there for like 2 years, don't think I even have 50 posts, and most my posts were in the local comp threads. They do have some pretty good info there, just to bad the majority have to act like jerkwads.

and kjr2, have you ever visited Pirate4x4? It' like RCC, only it's for 1:1s and they don't have any censors. Lol

Truthfully, I don't know what's worse, RCC or RCU, they're both useless to me. One is full of anti-newbies, and the other is full of stupid, arrogant know-it-alls who know nothing, and give totally bad advice. RCU is also filled with "Should I buy this or this?" threads to the point I quit reading all but the Diesel forum. I do like this forum. Very friendly atmosphere, one main focus, I just like it here. My favorite sites are here, Scale 4X4, Diesel Place, RC Pulling, County Line, and that's about it.

I'm a newbie that's been searching a bunch of forums for a couple weeks, and I've dealt with this. The RC world to me is pretty difficult. There are so many differant brands, products, and differant ways to configure them all. Sometimes I ask a lot of "dumb" questions, but trust me, I search and search and search before I ask. I spend most of my time searching through forums, reading page after page.

If I am going to spend the money (and this is a pretty expensive thing to get into), then I am going to make sure I ask people and find out about the best stuff I can get for whatever I am working on.

I am trying to understand, but right now it is like understanding chinese.

I am just happy I found this hobby. I got a High Lift as a gift on Christmas, and was instantly addicted. Now I can't stop thinking about it. It's awesome. I just wish it was a little easier to get into. I can understand why a lot of people won't or can't be bothered to get into it. It's expensive enough, and not very user friendly. Too bad.

Good thread though.

This is very true, and very humorous. I got a kick out of it. ;-)

to say RCC is useless is kind of funny. back in the day it was a flame fest, but recently its much better and if you can show me a site with more pages of valuable tech and innovative ideas ill give you a cookie.

that site is just amazing when it comes to tech. i browse every day to get ideas and i always come away with something new.

For cryin' out loud! Just help the friggin' noob! If you think it's a stupid question, then just don't post and move on. No need to be a jerk. How simple is that? I answer stupid questions and redundant questions all the time in real life. You shouldn't expect anything different on mesage boards.

Yeah, "useless" isn't really the right word. Maybe I should substitute useless and/or unfriendly for useless.

It's not so much redundant or stupid questions that bother me, but bad advise. On one forum (6.5 Diesel forum), a newbie asked a common question about making boost. Someone else comes on and tells the guy to wire the wastegate shut. For those of you not familiar with this engine, the stock turbo is capable of 20+ PSI of boost, and with stock compression ratio and no charge air cooling, much over 15PSI is enough to blow the bottom end out, head gaskets, and break/crack/blow who knows what else. That's what annoys me, bad advise that could cost someone $7K+.

Now before I start my post here, I dont want anyone to get offended here, that is not my intention. I also would like to state that I have been a member of RCMT for MANY years, started as "Iwantabruiser" then "Ihaveabruiser" and now "scalemaniac" so before anyone calls me out because I am mod on RCC I am not hating, just trying to help make some sense

But to say that RCC is "useless" is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard.... to be quite honest, I think its a rather ignorant statement.

RCC is the pirate 4x4 of the RC Crawling world, its has more info on radio control rock crawling then any other site in existence, hands down. HOWEVER a year two back it also had the same attitude as pirate, which was to bash noobs who didnt search. I became a mod mainly for the basis to help mature the site into a more nooby friendly environment and to be honest with you, its 100x better then it was for those who just have joined now or more recently.

If you take notice, the scale section doesnt have flamming... or very little, typically its between friends just messing with each other. You might ask why? Ill tell you, because I personally do NOT allow it. I think its BS to totally kill someone like some of the people do. DO I occasionally give people a little grief, sure, but in a positive way more or less. Also when I moved threads for the scale area, for a redudant question, into newbie general I will typically start my post off with "have you tried using the search button?" I all day long, use the search button on that site, I think it works awesome. 9 times out of 10 I can find what I am looking for.

I think the flamming has started up a little bit more again because of the 4x4 wheely king and the Axial as we have many new "noobs" asking the same question. Now the problem with asking the same question is that on a site like RCC with 15000 members is that if everyone asks "whats an xtrail chassis" over and over again, all day long (which does happen by the way) then it bumps out the new tech threads with people doing build ups and such and that why people get irritable.

Does it make it right to "flame" them, NO. Does it happen? Yes it does. Are we trying to improve the ways of RCC to be more friendly? YES we are. If you notice Jason has added MANY new moderators to try to help maintain order and a friendly environment.

so thats the story...

again to say RCC is useless is just silly :ack

usually if I see a question that annoys me I try to ignore it unless I'm in a kind mood. sometimes I just cant stand it anymore and will post something stupid or angry... I think that's why I had so many issues on a few other boards

Personally, if you can't say something nice than dont say anything at all....

Or in this case, if you can't help somoene without belittling them, than just don't bother ...Besides, there are ALOT of tough guys roaming the internet these days:tong

Words that I follow, but not everyone thinks the same:reye
