Updates

Well I finally got enough progress done to the Digger and a couple of guys have asked about this truck lately so time to post some updates. This truck has been very challenging to get to this point. Seems it has fought me every step of the way. I finally figured out how to get all the electronics in and hidden as well as the scale engine.

Got the seat finished up and in also. I really like how this seat turned out!

To include actual hardware holding the belts on....

Motor sits nice and low just like in the real truck. This was part of what took so long and caused a few newly invented curse words to get designed out and working. Trying to get the motor in low but still allow nice long travel and clearance of the top 4 links was a BEAR!

And you know it wouldn't truely be Grave Digger without...

Thanks for checking out the truck and hopefully I will be able to keep rolling along on this thing now!

Oh yeah, almost forgot! This truck is officially a runner at this point. The CC 5700's zipped it around the back yard for the first time this weekend. :burn

The truck looks great. I love seeing builds like this.

Ive always wondered why no one uses these style shocks though. I know they wont dampen quite as well as oil shocks. But the real trucks get pretty "bouncey". And for scale I think they look great. I have them on my Avenger tuber and they look better than the coilover type. imho Like I said, I was just wondering.

Here are some links. I dont want to post pics on someones build :wnk

From my experience you cant build 4 of them to feel the same. Plus your options for dampening are incredibly limited with that setup.

I cant speak for everyones personal preference, but for me if I can get my shocks built equally its a no go. Although it doesn't matter nearly as much on a scaler.

Yea, thats what I was thinking. It wont dampen near as well as oil shocks. But I didnt figure people were going to be too worried about that on a scaler. It always seemed strange to me to see these awesome builds, but the only thing that didnt look scale were the threaded coil over shocks. :-(

I messed with the HR shocks and like Mo said it is just really hard to get them consistent and even though this falls into the scaler realm performance is important for me. Also I can get the droop dialed in alot better with springs and collars. I am testing another type of shock that shows a lot of promise and hopefully will have something to report on those soon!

Hard to imagine but I'm liking this build more than the BFoot build you did. :drool

Watch out, I smell another ROM landslide :wnk

Coolness!

With it feeling like summer already figured a radiator was in order! :laugh
Went about building this one a little different so it is all fabbed out of styrene instead of brass like the Bigfoot one. Trying out different techniques on this truck all the while hoping I can match or beat the last one.....

Not sure if I am going to keep working on the back half of the truck or jump up front and work on some cockpit details next!?! :willy
