Goliath Clod build

I'm new to the forum and new to Clods. I got a used Clod a couple months ago that belonged to a late friend of mine. He was slowly modifying the truck to be a race clod but never finished. My plans are to build a full blown brushless race Clod with this truck. I will be using the CPE carbon fiber Terminator chassis. I will probably use a pair of Velineon 3500 motors because that is what I have in my toolbox

Here is the truck I'm starting with

Here is where I am with the chassis setup so far

I plan on making the truck a "replica" of the classic Goliath monster truck

I seen Goliath up close and person myself during the Canadian Tour in 1987-88.

Wish you good luck on your replica:)

I had a little time to do some wrenching on the truck last night. I was happy to find fresh gears and good rubber sealed bearings in the axles when I opened them up :) Now I'm waiting for a few parts to come in and debating if I want to buy aluminum axle tubes right away or wait a little while and put the money into something else right now...

Here she is moched up with the axles on the chassis and a new set of Jugg tires bolted up

Looks like your off to a great start!!

I've never seen Goliath in person, but from the picture it looks like a cool rig.

I thought you would of used a straight rail frame type Tamiya Clod chassis that would of been painted blue.

I plan on making the body more of a replica and decided to go with a race chassis. I am building this truck for racing and my plan is to run in Pro-Mod class at the No Limit R/C World Finals at Diggers Dungeon on Memorial weekend. I am having a lot of fun building this truck and I am thinking building another. When I do build another I plan to use a straight rail frame and make the truck as true to scale as possible

I made some more progress on the build this weekend. I learned that I will definately have to get some wheel wideners with the stock clod tires on the truck. They rub the lower 4-link bars. I'm also trying to decide if I am going to run a single battery with the 2 ESCs wired in parallel or if I will raise the electronics plate a little to give room for 2 batteries under it. The truck has an old school set of Jugg 2 aluminum shocks on it until I rebuild my Ultra shocks...

Here is a shot of the truck with a 79 Ford Supercab body that I run on one of my other trucks. My original plan was to run the regular cab version of this body done up like Goliath but the supercab fits this long wheelbase very well... I may be rethinking what body I'm going to run on this truck

My build is coming along very good but there have been a few changes... The first change is that I will not be running the Velineon systems in the truck now. I got a great deal on a pair of Hobbywing 60a ESCs and 3200kv Tacon motors that I installed in the build. I have also decided to build a set of STRC aluminum threaded body big bore shocks for it.

Here are a pair of pics of the chassis with the motors and ESCs installed. I also have the Jugg tires and rims on it

I was so excited the truck was coming together that I "borrowed" the rx from my daughters truck and drilled a few mounting holes in the old Grave Digger body

I made sure I cought the first run of the truck on video! The shocks are very bouncy. I was running them without oil because I knew that they leaked and this is why I am building new shocks. I am running on a single 5000mah 50c 2s lipo.

I was so excited that the truck was running so well that I set up the ramps! She nosed dived on the first jump because I let off the throttle in the air. I learned real quick to keep it hammer down while in the air...

There have been a few changes to my Clod since the last time I posted. The rules for the ProMod class in No Limit RC have changed a little. One of the changes was to the tire rule. Any tire that is a minimum of 5" tall x 3" wide is legal to run now so I bought some 12mm to 17mm wheel adapters and bolted up my 3.8 Mashers on 17mm Desperado wheels. I also built a set of STRC threaded body aluminum Big Bore shocks for the truck. I got my hands on a set of machined lower links also. The biggest change may be that I pulled out the EZ Run ESCs and Tacon 3200kv motors and replaced them with Velineons.

New shocks and links

New Tires

New brushless setup

Video of the test run (Lesson learned - use loctite on stock axle nuts holding on the adapters... lol)

Finally got my '79 Ford body in the other day and went out and bought paint to do my Goliath body. I'm using the HPI body and Tamiya paints

All trimmed up and resting on the chassis

Hand drawn paint masks for the lettering

After the first few coats of blue

Ready to start putting color in the letters

All the color is finished up just need back it and remove the protective film

Looks great, what did you use for masking? Also, what is the wheelbase of your truck?
Thanks! I used adhesive backed vinyl paper from the local craft store (Michael's). It is suposed to be used in a vinyl printey/cutter machine. I got 2 12x12 sheets for $10. My wheelbase is currently set at 15 1/2"
