Ive got a mostly stock txt with revo shafts and was wondering what pinion gear to run im not on lipos yet im running 3000mah 6 cell nimh and just dont want to burn up a motor or esc

Bills right i have a VXL in mt TXT and run 13t pinion in a stock trans and with a 7cell 3000 pack it back flips from a stand still

the traxxas setup is good for NiMh batteries or lipos but i noticed with the stock 15t it would cog a touch so i dropped to 13t and its nice and smooth :cool

A 13 tooth gear and a vxl in a txt equals great power. When I had my lightweight txt I was able to run a 18 tooth gear with my vxl and man did fly, but I was only able to run such a high gear because it was so light.

I've been running a 14t pinion in mine with the VXL 3500kv motor and a Mamba Max esc with a 2s lipo. The motor does get a little warm but I think that was because my tranny case was cracked. Also I get no cogging from this combo either.

I haven't run the TXT since I replace the tranny case but I think it should help lower the temps? Will see?

On my "race inspired txt" I'm running a 15t pinion with a 4600kv motor and 2s lipo.
My temps are in the 120s. My chassis is lighter than stock, though.

the big thing here is the 6cell you mention IMO wont have the punch of the 7cell let alone a 2s lipo . So with Joe and Toyotamans a 15t or bigger pinion was fine being there trucks are lighter than stock and their running a 2s

Very true
There is a huge difference between nimh/nicad and lipo/life.

Nimh you will need to gear with lower count pinion teeth because it cannot provide the power a lipo can.
