Ghetto plow

Now that I have my Clod I am debating getting this:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ESP-Clodzilla-Snow-Plow-Kit-4-ClodBuster-Plow-Snow-/230574075924?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35af493014

and doing a little plowing. I have read the forums here and watch videos and seen how cool it is to have a blade on your truck and push the snow around. Just curious as to thoughts on plowing snow with the Clod. I want to go for it but dropping over $100 on something I may get bored with when I could use that for other stuff is not something I want to do.

Change of plans. Looking at my Clod last night I decided I would give a shot to making my own plow. By raising the front bumper up to only the top holes I can use the lower holes to attach a plow chassis. Also think I found an easy way to attach the servo under the bumper. All I need to do now is figure out what to make the plow and lifting chassis out of. Going to have to do some thinking.

Hit the hardware store last night and picked up the parts needed to get things moving.

Plow cut out and attached with duct tape. Wanted to see if it actually worked.

The wire will be replaced with chain in the finished product.

Due to the thickness of that pipe you have I'm thinking that plastic blade maybe a little too heavy for the servo. If you shave the thickness down a little bit some how it may reduce the weight. Also remove that electrical wire as it will pose a problem with servo chatter and replace it with a chain or tie rods as you already mentioned. I'm thinking the chain should be directly connected to the frame directly below the servo to reduce the strain ,not on a foward angle like the wire is. You wanna keep the chain straight alined with the servo.

Never thought of thinning the blade. Will have a look tonight and see what I can do. Once I cut the tube to the right width I will move it up to the next hole which should put it right under the servo horn. Going to get the blade attached with more than duct tape tonight as well. Basically this is ver. 1.0. Once I see how it works I will look to make some improvements. The blade will be hard mounted to the bars for now but future versions hopefully will have springs to allow it to tip when hitting solid objects.

Got it all together tonight and took it out for a run. Learned some stuff. First I do need a spring system as any catch can cause issues. Secondly I need to find a better way to make the frame. It all appeared square until it was screwed together which showed a warp somewhere. Looks like a version two is definitely in order. After some more research.

Found some much better metal strips to work with today

Plow Ver. 2.0

Hinge point still needs to be lower.
