Foam tire inserts...yes or no?

I have never run foam tire inserts. However i have only used a few kinds of Clod tires.Stock Clod tires,Proline giant trac's,USA-1 tires and Imex road dawgs. The road dawg's were only run in the basement at slow speeds with stock motors, but i could see the need to run inserts outside at high speeds. My buddy used to run inserts in stock Clod tires and it turned a bouncy truck into a helium filled basketball on wheels.I did experiment with insert with a large v shaped cut down the center of the foam all the way around and it seemed to be better but still too firm. What tires do you all use inserts in?Do you use them all the time or only for certain activities? Is it just that i've never used tires with a soft enough compound that i've never felt the need,or that i never really had ultra fast Clods to crush the tires down when cornering or jumping?:conf

everyone has likes and dislikes, setups vary indoors and out

Imex and RC4WD I run foams, but also drill at least a few extra holes in wheels for breathing. A few 3/16th-1/4 holes helps the tire squash and return to shape

When I use stock tires I don't, those things are stiff enough on their own, but I also have a set off road dawq's, they kinda need it on carpet imho. I use them without foams, and I get a lot of sidewall deformation in the corners (I use a 9.6v 17 turns speedgem setup for power) I think for more surefooted handling I should've used them, but I already glued them on...

If you're running on rougher terrain with less grip (an off-road track or something) you do not need foams at all. Just a few bigger holes in the rims like Will said.

I never drilled anymore hole in the wheels.I was afraid that increasing the size of the existing holes or drilling more might allow the tire to squash too quickly. Now that you guys have said different i may give it a try in the future.

when I ran stock clod tires I had no foam, and had (5) 1/4'' holes drilled in them to help to get the tires to flex some.

i dont really race so i dont know how much my post will count but for bashing and small carpet racing(short course track) the foams do not help me. i like the flex.

I mostly bash around using RC4WD tires and those definitely need the foams. Even with the foams, the sidewalls callapse. I also just bought brand new stock tires which I believe are off the old, dieing tire mold and I noticed that all the tires have one sidewall stiff and one sidewall weak. Thinking back on Clods I owned in the past, I don't recall the tires being this way. So I am now contemplating using foams with these pair of stock tires too. Haven't made up my mind yet.

I don't race, just bash and occasional rock crawling.I guess i always felt that if the tire was way too soft i would use foam, but i never ran into one that was that soft.

3/4 of my trucks dont run foams those 3 all use Imex Baja or Road Dwag tires, I run foams in my rumbles as they felt wayyyy to thin to not run them with foams haha.
