I present my custom sand dragster named YELLOWCAKE. I had posted some preview pics some time ago in another thread. http://www.myrcmt.com/bd/showthread.php?t=6064

Below are some 'finished' pics as well as some 'aftermath' following its first run today.

First- a couple of clean pics before its first run...

and now some cool still shots from the first run...

and the aftermath...

so far, not that bad- just a little residual sand...

But what really happened during its maiden voyage???? :-(

3s lipo + 4600KV Brushless + no diffs + too rough of a terrain for the vehicle = OUCH

There you have it -Carnage!

I'll post the first run highlights video soon :burn

ouch
the ring/pinion is toast. :bang

Those are basicly AE tc3 gears, any chance of finding them in steel (hardened) to last longer? You might have to consider changing axle brands :-(

Either that or less grippy tyres lol
How did the motor cope btw?
Did it get burny at all?

How long did it run before that happened?

Linked below is the Short highlight reel from the run-

Can't get any less grippy than paddles on the parking lot as seen in first half of video. As for the motor/esc, really did not get the chance to break a sweat- but I'm sure it wouldn't had. I didn't hold full throttle for more than a second or two while on the sand, there was just too many ruts from full scale trucks and dirt bikes-if only I had a giant rake :reye

Will- I'm already ahead of you, Wheely King or Axial axles have crossed my mind. I knew something was going to break when I first powered it up. Any suggestions? In the mean time I hope this TC3 diff provides some relief.

wahhhh I like that slow mo lift/twist at the end yowza that is some torque twist :shk

I say if your going to swap out go axial, 2 reasons
1,not as wide as the wk so more realistic for your rig. Both are wider, but wk is a lot more so.
2, all the aftermarket support that is there for axial. We're talking diffs, gears, axkles you name it there is a ton. Plus even some wk parts fit in the axial.

I think I'd also opt for a diff up front so it'll take some stress out, and turn better too. Both axial and WK diffs are swappable so you can buy either brand to get a diff instead of a spool.

Thanks for the info on the Axial axles, I will defiantly look at those.

As for that flying twist in the video, I admit to being frustrated that I could not find a decent (rut free) area to let it loose so I just grabbed full throttle for the heck of it :D

For the PTI axles, would nitro TC3 diffs be stronger? I would think that the internals they put in the nitro would hold up better, but maybe not.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Alfy, that is a good way of putting it :)

Honestly, I'm not too sure if the nitro gears are all that different, I haven't found anything definitive stating so either way though. Notice the spare gears of mine in the last pic are of a different color so maybe different results??? Hopefully I'll get a chance to find out this weekend.

I have to admit that I don't really like how so many parts are visible/exposed.
But it seems that more of a body would just be in the way.

It's definitely sick, no doubt.

I know sand is capable of getting into the smallest of crevasses, but really, how bad is it for RC's?

Well, I haven't had much better luck with Project YellowCake... first I did replace the stripped spool with a tc3 diff seen above and the truck ran well for 2 minutes until a screw fell out the front left steering block. I finally got around to fixing that last week and took it out again just to end up having big time slippage from that rear diff :-( Well at least it gave me more time to play with the Clod :D

My buddy brought a few of his toys too Check it out...

the PTI axles just don't seem up to the power your putting through them unfortunatly. :-( I think a axial or wheely king axle set might be the way to go.
