External hard drive recommendation?

So the family computer is getting a little long in the tooth (65GB of pictures on a 70GB hard drive). I want to start with an external hard drive, then I can just move it over when we get a new puter. Anyone have a favorite hard drive they would recommend?

I'd prefer to keep it at or under $100, 300 or more GB of memory.

Thanks,
Brian

if you are buying a new comp you can just buy a hard drive enclosure.plug it in your new comp and save any thing you want.the wipe it clean and use it as external storage.it is also good if your comp crashes and place the crash hard drive in case and extract important files off.this will work as long as the crash is software issue and you cannot retrieve the files any other way.done this 2 or 3 times with my old comps.get one that uses ede and sata .if your old comp is ede these are the older style and newer style plugs on back of the hard drive are sata.the new comp will most likely be sata or higher.you have these for less then $50 at tigerdirect.of coarse the only pitfall is you will only have a 70g drive in it

My father has several of those particular hard drives for storing his photographs on and they work fantastic. Great choice.
