Done with R/C

yeah.. i think its true.

for the last month i havent really touched any of my trucks except working on my digger (which i honestly havent been enjoying much) and i dont miss them. seeing them collecting dust on the shelf doesnt make me sad, or inspire me to break them out and play. the thought of spending any more money on them or spending money on new ones just kind of puts me off. they used to give me so much entertainment but now im getting alot more entertainment out of alot of different, cheaper places.

i have had slumps like this before.. but this is going on near 2 months now and it feels kind of good not doing ANYTHING R/C and finding new hobbies.

so all in all i think its time for me to hang it up. ill be going off to college this fall and im hoping by that time ill be fully done with rc. im gonna finnish my digger up and make it a shelfer to remind me of how good R/C was to me and the culmination of about 6 years of doing it. i figure thats a good way to go out.

keep your eyes on the sell/trade forum for alot of stuff. im not sure how much ill be unloading very soon but soon enough most of it will be for sale. its kind of scary to think of how much crap i have to unload hah.

I've felt the same way on many occasions. In my case instead of wanting to abandon it altogether I end up keeping one rc and sell off the rest. That way I don't have too much cash into that particular hobby and just in case I get the urge to run one, at least I have something.

I have so many hobbies I don't have time for real work, lol...When RC bores me I'll jump into guitar playing, work on wood projects, or whatever I feel like doing. Besides, if your hobby starts feeling more like a chore or burden, better to find something else so it doesn't feel like a 9-5'er.

Been there before Mo...Several times actually...I always seem to find my way back into it though...Seems like since I got my rig I seem to stay into it and dont care to get out. Hence why I'm selling off stuff to pay for a new trailer for it. Then there's the recent influx of Tamiya buggies...and now a boat...Just hope you stick around as you've become a really good friend. Keep your chin up!

If you get out of rc, and 6 months down the road you are still out, please e-mail me and let me know the secret to the success. I've been trying to get out of this hobby for 18 years. :willy

Last year I sold everything and headed off for greener pastures in Model Railroading. 8 weeks later, I was making another Tower Hobbies order. Now I'm back in it and getting heavier in it by the day. That wasn't my first attempt to leave it either. Sooner or later, you might be in a store and glance at a r/c magazine, or be on the net some place, and it'll be on.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

sometimes it takes clearing out your old collection to respark interest in rc... that's why I keep buying new trucks and updating my old ones

Until last month, it had been 3 years since my last Tower Hobbies purchase. If you have seen my crawler build, you will see I relapsed hard! :willy :tong

Mo, if you have anything truly unique, priceless, one of a kind or extremely rare, take my advice and don't sell it! Trust me on this. I had done this before myself, I built a unique truck and later on sold it when I wasn't playing with it much. I have regretted it ever since and have no idea where that truck is now.(Monster Patrol clod). Sell off the run-of-the-mill stuff if you feel you must, but keep the more difficult to get stuff. Eventually you will be back and you will regret it if you unload anything important...

I could never get tired of r/c's. I love toys and they're my absolute favorite toys since third grade. Anyhow, it pays to have lots of other hobbies and interests. Sometimes I don't run mine for months or even work on them for weeks. I like modeling and mechanics so I like to wrench. Also, between gaming, my home theater, my PC, cooking, raquetball, working out, my dogs, biking, skating, car audio...I barely get to run these things (when they're not in pieces). I'm giving my brother a Clod to thin out the herd since he's taken an interest.

Just make sure to keep one. You just might get the itch again. I've seen people come back to the hobby disgusted with themselves after selling everything off.

I left the hobby for close (if not over) 10 years. Something about it seems to drag most people back.

I understand what you are going through. Sometimes you need a break. I view R/C as mainly a winter hobby. In the summer my wife and I race motocross so there isn't a lot of time or $$$ for R/C. In the winter when it's cold outside (no motocross then) is when I do the majority of the R/C builds and work. Our basement is pretty much a full time Monster Jam arena for the winter.

I think saving one vehicle is sound advice. I remember WAY back I traded a Clod set up (my last RC before my hiatus) for a pair of Oakley Razor Blades and some other crap. Dumb. I should have shelved the Clod and gear and saved myself the trouble of purchasing it all over again 10 years later.

yeah, i agree with pretty much all thats been said here so far.. and have taken a ood bit of advice from it as well.

i know ill possibly be back into it eventually. possibly after college if i regain interest. so i put all my clods into storage, its impossible to sell a $1,500 plus race clod for more than $400. why i always traded my stuff away but that wotn do me too much good now. so now i have 2 trucks fully ready to go in storage and im gonna sell off all the little useless stuff i have held onto with hopes of using it on future projects or trucks. get rid of all the extra tires, chagers, axle bits, possibly some bodies.

the only thing im gonna keep out and ready to use is my tamiya mini cooper, since its so small and easy to play with if i get that feeling. i just hope i dont have the classic relapse.. i would kinf of be happy to be done with all of them! hah

thanks for all the input guys.

Two months isn't much of a lull. I have gone through 5 or 6 months before when they hardly ever get run or worked on. I'm kind of in one right now. I started messing with my PC during the winter when it was to cold to do much else anyway. But, now with spring here I still find myself still playing with the PCs and the not RCs. And, I have been trying to get out and play some golf, since it has been nice.

I have no doubt I will go back to the RCs eventually, though.

mike how'd u do over there?
hmmmm lemme see...

The not so good...

my 140$ JR high speed high torque digital servo went out on snake bite...so the truck didnt steer...didnt realize it at 1st cause it would work fine but it would get hot as you used it and then it would stop working... 50$ later, replacement servo from Jay Jordon...thank god for Jay lol

Snake bite runs at turtle speeds...find motors to be SHOT...start cutting comms...comms dont have enough material to cut any more...swap in spare setof 10 turns...truck is WAY to fast ...end story

Monster Energy runs at turtle speeds...find Immortal Force motors to be SHOT...start cutting comms, dont have enough material to cut any more...no spare motors...hmmmm come back to that

Executioner...almost running good? to good to be true??? NOPE stops steering...receiver pack dies truck stops steering:bang come back at end of day after pack charges up...throw down a descent run or 2 .

Take motors out of Executioner install into monster energy, finish the day off...few descent runs, nothing great

sport mod truck... servo WAY TO SLOW had to steer ahead of upcoming turn :ack not used to clod tires on carpet, truck drifted or power slid :tong around the track, few good runs here and there, but nothing consistent

The good....

Snake Bite took 2nd place concours

1st place in box stock with my clod puller...even after being told many of times it would never take more then 3rd :tmb

The *best* part of the weekend was the in person delivery from Dan Wyatt... all I am going to say is its now official :D
