This is the start of my GD Wheely King. Its made of 1/4 in stainless steel tubing. Some of the parts I want to use are:

Traxxas GD body
Traxxas XL-5 ESC and reciver box
Traxxas MJ wheels and tires (front)
WK axles
WK springs and shocks
WK drive shafts
Crawler king link bars
Traxxas 12turn or an HPI 15turn motor

Worked all day today but got stuck because I ran out of tubing so I'm getting more next week.:D:D;bang:bang:bang Heres a pic of whats up. Its a link

Looks like you're off to a good start. You've probably already checked it out, but you'll want to study up on johnnyshore's Bounty Hunter turned Grave Digger build. He's running CK axle mounts and WK lower links. This puts the wheelbase right at 11" with the stock WK chassis mounting points. Depending on where you make your 4-link mounting points, you may need to adjust some of those dimensions. I wanted something that looked a little more scale, so I made my own 4 link bars to come out to the same 11" wheelbase. Here's a link to my thread where I made the 4-link bars with dimensions.

Depending on how long you make the wheelbase, you'll probably want to use the Traxxas 4951X driveshafts. They'll probably work with up to an 11.5" wheelbase. The stock WK driveshafts will be too short.

I know you already have some considerable time and effort in this deal, but the 1/4" tubing looks a little big. Maybe it's just the picture. Before you get too far into it, you may want to double check what diameter tube some other guys have on their tube frame rigs. Plus bear in mind that you're using a smaller Traxxas body, and not the larger Parma 1/10 body. Please don't take that the wrong way. I'm not trying to put down your efforts at all. I'd just hate to see you put a lot of time and effort into something, and the tubing end up looking too big and bulky. Like I said, maybe it's just the picture.

Good luck.:)

Any updates?:cool

I would suggest just tack welding those tubes together, and then braze the rest to make a clean joint. It's hard to weld such a small tube... But if you wanna solder or braze, then the tubes should be fitted together as precisely as possible without too big gaps for the solder to flow well throughout the joint, so a good small round file is needed(same diameter as the tube).

When I was starting my Digger chassis build, I was thinking about welding too, but then I decided to braze the whole thing because it would have been a major pain to clean up all the joints. My chassis is made of 6mm acid resistant tube, so basically the same as stainless tube.:)

I haven't done much with the truck but its starting to look like a truck though:D:D:emot15: welding the frame is going to be a pain with the cleaning:( but so far I'm good with it.:):) and Ithink its going to look good.:D:D:D:D:D

Ok, it will be a strong chassis then, if you have the patience to clean all the welds!:cool

BTW, is that top part of a V8 in the first pic from a Kyosho Big Boss or HiRider Corvette? I'm looking for a V8 for my next project that would be correct size to be used with 1:8 body, but haven't found any. Might even have to build one from scratch!

What shocks do you guys think i should use? i was thinking duel maxx shocks (two shocks per corner) or one per corner also the frame weighs about 2.5 pounds with out the body or anything.

maxx are going to be way to stiff , i used wheely king shocks with 20wt oil and its nice and soft ....well suspension actually works instead of just being stiff

i get droop and it swats on acceleration and dives on braking :)

plus one shock per corner has no spring on my setup and that shock has just a little oil to keep it moving freely

i really want to have duel shocks and springs. but it has to be soft i want it to be like the real truck with lots of flex. maybe duel pede shocks? any suggestions?

I would think no spring's is the only option to run dual shocks becuase there is not much weight there to begin with.
