Ok I have been looking around and I would love to hear opinions on which is a better overall performer as a scale monster truck build?

I hope this is in the right area I was going to make this a poll for future enthusiats who would like to see some info on which one is better for this or that.

Stock, a Clodbuster is a good scale 80's monster. The Wheely King looks more like a current truck. The WK is much smaller, but comes RTR. A modified Clod is much more fun, but costs a lot more than a WK. If I were choosing from those two, it would be a Clod hands down.

We also have a new 1:10th scale RTR monster coming in a couple of months that will have a realistic look: http://www.rcmt.biz/bd/showthread.php?t=11625

I love my WK. It's totally different than what a normal WK looks like, it doesn't jump very well and no longer does wheelies cuz I stretched it and added a bunch of alloy. It's now my waterproofed scale-ish trail/mud truck. I had a lot of fun with it when it was stock and some day will get another one and only do a few minor mods.

I want a Clod too. Tho it's a tough decision between building a crazy one with a sweet chassis n stuff, or just buy a kit and leave it stock.

If you're limited on space and would like a truck you could have a little fun with indoors, I'd vote Wheely King.
You can go crazy and spend a lot of money upgrading a WK (I did) but the money spent might be more worthwhile on a Clod, tho you might end up spending a lot more for parts.

I'm not real thrilled on the amount of power needed to run large RC's. Yeah, they're frickin sweet but two motors on one 6 cell pack or 2s Lipo... is gonna suck that battery dry pretty quick. If you run two packs at a time, you'll get more power and/or run time... but again, you're going through your packs pretty quick.

My WK isn't incredibly fast with the different motor/pinion I put in it but I get like 20-30 minutes out of a Radio Shack 6 cell 3300mah pack. I'm gonna play with the gearing to get a little more top end out of it. I'm happy with it for now, it's at least faster than I can walk and will kick up a little dirt.

I would say wheely king. Bunch of upgrades, alittle smaller than a clod, a real fun basher, jumps really good, also gonna be less expensive in the long run.. The clod is a great truck too, but will take alittle more to be a real fun truck.

Let's face it. Clods are not scale because they have the motor on the axle. Wheely Kings win in the scale looks category. I have 3 WK's and 2 Clods. Clods are far more durable, and are a ton of fun. You get good run time on batteries so long as you don't go crazy with hot motors, like 14T or 12T motors.
If you just want all out fun with no breakdowns, then I would vote for a Clod. There are far more performance upgrades available for them, as well.
If you want to run a hot motor setup in your WK, then you will need to upgrade the plastic tranny gears to steel or aluminum, because they will slip and/or combust. You will also need to shim the axles and pinion, because they will strip out. I'm not just rehashing what I heard. I'm an owner.

Clod ... cause size really does matter :rof :cool

... as for run times ... I've been running 12T modified motors (regular motor for me) in my Clods with high end Li-Po's for over a year or more ... get excellent run times ... usually last long enough for me to get bored :tmb

... a 12T is plenty fast and won't even make a Tekin G11 Pro all that warm (gets good air circulation because its flying ... hehe).

thanks for the info guys I currently have a crawler king that I am trying to do a scale monster truck build for but I am having a 0000 of a time trying to find a grave digger body that will fit right since the crawler king has a wheelbase of 11.6".
