those big 74mm long cans run soo nice, and cool too.

those are what the 4x4 short course guys run now most of the time, so cool and spot on power

messed around with this a bit today...i put a gopro mount on it to see if i could get some truck POV vids for our upcoming midfinals next weekend...unfortunately, the mount isnt stable enough, and the vid comes out too shaky...

also- looks like the vxl esc cant handle the motor...it doesnt get hot, but will cog on occasion, and reduce power to 50%...at other times, it can deliver full power and wheely, but it's never consistent...im using a 3s 40c lipo and it does it on 2s as well...strange...i thought it might be the extra capacitors i soldered on, but i took those off and it still does the same thing...looks like i have to upgrade the esc...

Were you running a fan on it ? 3s is the max it can take, but those Jugg tires are kinda heavy, compared to a slash tire.

yep- always had a fan on it...

when i had the reedy 3300kv motor, and 3s, esc and motor both got hot, but it would give full power...with the orion 2050kv motor i have in there now, esc runs cool, motor runs warm, and full power on occasion, and reduced power on occasion- never consistent results...

i'll test it with a mamba max pro or mamba monster and see if that makes a difference...

handles them great...better than any of my race clods/txt's...

the independent suspension just soaks it all up and lands without any drama, then keeps going...

Interesting. I will keep that on mind. I am batting around the idea of adding a 3rd truck to my fleet, but can't act on that at the moment.

I have a Slash now, and I am considering making it into a clod-o-slash. However, I'll be running either stock clod tires, or B&H's with it. What gear ratio would be good with this, as I will be running the included 3500kv motor and esc, with 8.4v 5000mah 7 cell Nimh pack ?

smallest pinion you can fit...which is a 9t i believe...

the motor and esc wont like it with anything higher...which is a bit of a bummer, since the 9t kinda kills the speed (and fun) with it...watch the temp of the motor and esc often though...

i ran the stock vxl motor and esc combo and it had power delivery issues...where the throttle was inconsistent...cogging at times and full power at times...didnt make for a very fun driving experience...9t pinion...

then i ran orion 2050kv 1/8 motor with vxl esc...ended up frying my vxl esc...this is a known problem, even with the stock vxl motors, so i chalked it up to that...(that was a mistake)...

so i ran the orion motor, with a castle mamba monster esc...still 14t pinion...weird cogging (which didnt occur with the vxl), and after a few minutes, the esc literally burst into flames...i guess the amps running through the esc was too much...

i didnt understand why the orion motor/mamba monster combo couldnt handle it, since it's used in the kyosho madforce, and it works fine in there. with 4s, and i was running 3s max..so i pop in a castle 2650, run a mamba monster esc, and 14t pinion and all is well...i run it on anything from 2s to 4s lipo, and no heat (or fire) issues...your best bet to run clod sized tires is to run 1/8 electronics in it...i go with castle, but i'm sure the cheaper stuff, hobbyking/nitrorcx/etc. would work as well...

realize you'll probably have to upgrade the driveshafts also...the stock ones wont like the strain from more power and bigger tires, especially the rears...mip is an option (what i went with), but tekno makes another one that's a bit cheaper...

please dont think i'm trying to discourage you from putting clod tires on your slash, but i want to share the hardships (especially financially with my burnt electronics) i went through with mine...in the end, it is very fun, but takes a bit more than just slapping clod tires on...

those would be a better choice, since they're shorter and wont alter the gearing as much as a stock clod tire...

forgot to mention- you'll also want to stiffen up the servo saver...steering is very sloppy with the stock setup...either need to upgrade the spring (i *think* online forums say the emaxx black spring- check, i'm not sure), or use a 2mm thick shock clip used as a spacer (what i did)...search online, and it's documented how to do it...

I was thinking about this thread just now. I just saw a YouTube video, of a supposedly all stock slash 4x4, with proline giant trac clod tires. The guy was running it on a 2S 4000mah LiPo pack. He drove it in deep snow without a body. It moved quite well.

Ive been running mine completely stock except the 9t pinion and Baja Imex Clod tires on 3s lipo for a while now and have only broken one part, rear driveshaft (my fault for letting someone else beat the holy crap out of it) but on a good note, he beat the holy crap out of it and thats all he managed to break. Even doing double front and backflips and slamming down hard on every part of the truck (including my custom body) I love mine :)

The VXL 3S 3500 system holds up okay ? No temp issues ? A 9 tooth pinion with 54 tooth spur ?
Is 3S LiPo more power then 7 cell 5000mah Nimh ?
What about wheels/hubs/etc ?

I have had 0 issues except for the one rear slider shaft, the smaller male end that broke off... Thats it so far, these things are built much beefier than a 2wd Pede and Ive been driving mine with Jugg or Clod tires on it for almost 10 years now with very few broken parts... The 4x4's have thicker driveshafts, 32 pitch gears, etc. almost like they were built for this stuff :)

Yes the VXL works just fine, havent had any temp issues yet running at room temperature, 9 tooth pinion stock 54? spur
3s LiPo would be 11.1 volts, a 7 cell Ni-Mh would be 8.4
