Clod electric question

First off I been into nitros for some time now so Im a little behind in electrics. I recently purchased a clodzilla 4 rtr obviously used. The truck is in great condition. Like new. It has a futaba radio, super rooster esc, novak receiver, and traxxas stinger motors, Also all I got was some 1500 mah sport packs. The question I have is the truck is slow as all h**l. I would think it would be a bit faster then it is. I have had clods befor and they were faster stock. Im curious if is the electrical setup.See both of the switches on the radio for the throttle and steering are postioned in reverse. Im looking to upgrade the motors and batteries at the present time so any help or some kind of link on how to set up the electronics, ect, would be very appreciated. Also what are the lowest turn motors and best battery for the buck to run with the super rooster. Im mainly going to bash and high speed running with it now. No locked diffs so crawling is out for now. Thanks for any help.

how are the motors wired?
the motors may be tired.
the batteries may be tired.
these are the top 3 things i can think of that will slow ya down.

What Motors are in the truck now? Maybe the previous owner was into crawling? Could have high turn, but slower motors

you can go on to team novak's site and download the instructions for the super rooster. http://www.teamnovak.com/download/instructions/pdfs/rooster_superr.pdf

You will get more speed and run time out os a higher mha battery I have been running team orion stick packs for a while and have had great luck with them so much about a month or two ago I bought 5-3900 mha packs and they are working awsome.

I have one clod with two 55t lathe motors and it is slow I only use it for roock crawling the othe clod I have had two speed gem amber I don't remember the turn (tower hobbies sells them) and I get good speed and run time with them.

I have a super rooster in the clod with the speed gem ambers and I have it wired with the esc going to the back motor and then two wire's going from the back motor to the front (parallel) works good for me.

Oh you might want to know the 55t stands for 55 turn the higher the turn the slow the motor basic rull of thumb

but why would the switches both be in the reverse position for the servos on the radio? And I cant quite remember about the series and parallel wiring. If I can remember one makes it go faster and the other gives it a longer run time. Bare with me fellas It been quite some time since I had my clods aprox 10 years. Thanks for the quick responses and help.

The link to the super rooster cleared up the question on the series and parallel questionn I had and I gues the servos on the truck are just switched around.
I remember about the turns on the motors but not the triple or double and such. I been looking for something in the low to mid twenty range for motors. I think the traxxas stingers in it are just not the ticket. Plus the 1500 mah sport pack just dont cut it in my book for a zilla 4. It did come with a splicer to run two packs though. Maybe two fifteen turns and two 3000 mah packs.:shk

If the motors were spun the opposite direction causing the truck to go backwards, then you reverse the throttle servo. It works the same for steering.
FOr the motors, connect both positive wires from the motors to the positive on the ESC. Do the same for the negatives. This give you maximum speed and power and is known as the parallel setup.

1 super roosters can handle down to 15T in parallel, I suggest 17T to prevent overheating (and it's just a good turn motor in my opinion)

2 remember that the rear motor will have to either be wired backward from the front motor (switching + and -) or the endbell will have to be rotated 180 degrees (endbells on stingers cant be rotated, so more than likely the previous owner switched the polarity)

.... It did come with a splicer to run two packs though.
does the splicer keep both the reds together and the blacks together?
if so, that will just double amperage (run time) not voltage, so no speed increase.
if it combines red to black (which i doubt) that would double voltage and cut run time, but make a HUGE increase in power!
i think the rooster can only handle up to 10 cells though, if i remember correctly.

the traxxas stinger motors aren't zero/neutral timed, so one of your motors basically crippled - you need motors with adjustable timing, or a set of motors that has a "reverse rotation" version to use in the rear? gearbox ( i think the rear is the one that runs reverse rotation) or 2 motors that are both zero/neutral timed.

im having the same problem actually - i want a set of fan cooled 550 motors that are neutral timed - cant find any :-(

Its the stingers. Theres you problem. I am gonna run 2 3000 packs and dual 11t's w/ 13T Pinions to see how I can get mine running :tmb

Traxxas 12 turn 550 Titans

Traxxas 12 turn 550 Titans are zero degrees timing. I would not have guessed that but I looked all over and found nothing so I emailed Traxxas and the reply told me that they are. With a 7 cell battery they push a stampede close to 35 mph so a Clod should be pretty fast with them if geared right. Plus they can handle eight cells. Bill

Yep, that's right. To remember where the reverse rotation motor goes, I keep this in the back of my mind:

REverse = REar

It sounds silly, but it has worked for me since I got my first Clod Buster way back in 1987 and started to modify it.

thanks - i was about to email them about that too:) looks like they are the motors ill get

I have a zilla 4 under construction and the only thing i dont like is there is no room for dual packs, but im resolving that issue at this time. If you want noticable power and speed increase throw another super rooster on that ride of yours and have 2 speed controls and 2 batteries hence 1 per motor. This will make a huge difference and will probably be what youre looking for. Im running 16t double wind trinity motors in mine and its awesomeBut you will need a y harness for them just like the servos have just remove the red wire from one of your roosters before you plug it in to the reciever or you will burn it up.
