Clod Body Paint -- Prime it or just shoot it?

Hey I got a new Clod body I'm gonna paint orange. It's brand new body. I have a couple of questions about painting it.

1. Do I need to hit it with primer or can I just spray the orange right on the white platic? And if I don't need primer, should I wipe it down with something?

2. I'm gonna do it orange with Tamiya Color and then clear it for a high gloss look. Do I have to let the orange cure completely before clearing it? And should I scuff the orange before the clear?

what I do is scuff with scotchbrite pad then wash and dry then shoot a light coat of primer, let dry and second coat
Then a quick light wetsand and after drying shoot my topcoats
then any decals get applied
then a very very light fine wetsand in any troubled areas before drying and clear coat

For you!! just rince the body off in soapy water and dry it off. And then give it a coat of primer so the paint has something to stick to. Once paint is dry then apply decals and give the body a shot of clear coat. I used this method for BB&B with no problems at all.

remember
if your buying tamiya paints buy at least twice what you think you need.

If I paint w/ testors I need 1 primer, 2 top coat and 1 clear. If I swap to tamiya I always need at least 4 cans of top coat and 2 clears to get the color even and the shine I want. Tamiya paint is finer and end results are better, but a lot more money. Testors is more forgiving and covers better.

I only use Kryon Plastic Fusion Paint!! that's becoz you get more for your buck but less color varietys to choose from. I saw Tamiya paints in LHS and it too expensive for such a small can.

you get what you pay for though, the hobby paints, especially tamiyas really show the details. Krylon or house hold spray paints lay on so thick they'll hide details and take away from the finished result. Not to mention you will never get the shine from krylon type while Tamiya or Testors will be a beautiful shine that catches the eye.

Never really had any problems for myself as far as details is concern, just the clear shiny result. I did the Bullhead with Tamiya paint a good number of years ago when Tamiya paint was much cheaper. Now it's like 10 bucks for a tiny little can here in Canada. The Closet can I bought was their clear coat last year for sealing off decals on BB&B. I would buy Tamiya paints if they drop the price down a little.

Tamiya paints are $6 + tax at my lhs so its not to bad. I use Tamiya color on my mini 4wd toys and I like how their paint is super fine and doesn't fill in the body details. I'll grab one primer and two Orange and hopefully that's enough.
