body

looking really good so far! I like the thread method too! cut a sleeper cab off a big rig that way makes a very clean cut. I only use yellow top oven cleaner to take off paint. works like a champ! I open up a plastic garbage bag, spray the body down, close the bag and wait... then I scrub it with an old brush to remove the paint, rinse and spray again... to get the molding lines and small areas I use an old toothbrush works great and very little effort. when I am all done I wash it with soap and water ... ready to paint

I never really cared for the sunroof on the clod so I eliminated it, had a little down time a work today.

The start of the drop bed, but still have a lot to do so say tuned for the next episode.

Thanks, I'm using just a x-acto knife. I just score the stryene well and snap it.

Last night I was able to cut the bed out, now I got to figure out what to use to give the ribbed type look that the bed floor has. This work is time consuming, especially since it is my first time but fun to make it my own. If I can make all my ideas for it come thru I think everyone will like it.

you could combine a couple bed floors
I'm sure if asked a few busted up bodies are laying around and could be had cheap

Cut the bed out for the start to drop the bed down

Filed down all the raised bosses and the continuations of the channels in the bed

Wheel well openings cut out and filled in the front holes where the raised roll bar mounts were

I am finding out real fast on how slow this kind of work can go especially when I have no idea what I am doing half the time.

For not knowing what you are doing you are doing a pretty good job. :) Will be watching this one. Someday I may attempt this on a Clod body.

Thanks guys for the nice comments :D :D

RCMAN it sure does suck to age and everything starts to hurt

Tom, no I didn't use the string technique on the bed just scored it over and over while watching TV

Bill this thing is trying my patience alright, I may have to go take Yoga classes or some sort of mental therapy to find my sanity, lol.

This is really not hard work to do, I think I am just being very nit-picky on everything. Before I cut the bed out or anything I have done so far I must have gone over every scenario a billion times before proceeding doing anything. It has been a fun project so far tho, just need a truck for it to go on. I have a busy weekend so not sure how much progress I will get on it over the next few days.

I was able to get a little further along on the bed over the last couple days, now I just need to get some wheel wells made up for it

I was able to make up some wheel wells between last night and today at work, they came out satisfactory I guess. Still have a few minor details on the bed to do yet, but still need to figure out the plan of attack on the tailgate.

At work today I cut the nose off to start the flip nose part of the project, next up is the fire wall and interior pieces. I need to find a MM engine or something comparable.

airplane hinges for the tailgate, they make a few sizes and strengths

Looking good, the hood tilt will be awesome

Looking at the hood and cab you would swear they came separate. Nice job. Did you use thread on it or score with an X-acto knife?

Thanks for the airplane hinge idea Bill!!

Thanks, I did score it a little bit just to help when I used the thread to cut it and it seemed to make a difference doing both.

I am going to be digging this out of the graveyard soon, already have the EMT's on standby with their defibrillator!! If I continue to go the route of it going on a scale truck I was able to pick up an original Bruiser from Gavyn a while back (which will be another build thread since it needs a complete go thru, if not I have 2 stock Clod chassis and may go the replica way
