Building a TLT-1 Today

Hey guys, putting together a TLT-1 I bought from a guy on RC Tech Forums. Has some cool extras with it, some aluminum parts and a Tamiya graphite chassis. Full ball bearings all around and I think I am going with a brushless setup and LiPo. I have a 35 amp hobbyking ESC and a Tacon motor I never put in anything and I think this will be a good rig for it. I think I am going to try some 1800 MaH 25c gens ace batteries that I have for my RC18T since they should fit ok and provide a decent amount of punch for this little guy.

Anything I should watch for while building this thing? I'll have to look up the KV rating on the motor I have but can the TLT-1 handle mild brushless power? Oh yeah where should TLT posts go on this forum? I wasn't sure what category it would fit into...

i believe TLT posts go in the mini/micro section. check it out, there are a few nice builds in there and the sticky at the top of the page really has good info about the TLT and upgrade possibilities. please post photos once you get it running, we love the little ones :cool

OK Thanks I will check out the mini section, didn't think to look there.

Pics will come when it has paint. Got it mostly together and the motor is a 4300KV from Tacon.

Get some wheely bars, cause that thing is going to be on it's roof with that motor:cool

I just put mine back together after I don't how many years it's been in pieces, still need a esc for it and a battery. How big is that Gen Ace your using?

Here is the battery in the truck, it hangs out the back a little and they are 1550 MaH not 1800's like I thought. I think they fit pretty darn good.

I still have to mount up the ESC and need to put Deans on the end of it but it should be running soon. Have to figure out what I want to do for paint on the body too...

If its the tranny it helps get the power to the axles. I've got mine locked so all my power goes to the axles instead of slipping.

For the diffs or what? If it's for the center trans why would I want to lock that?

-Joe
Like th67ss said, its for the tranny. The center tranny has a slipper in it, so there are times with more power will go to either the front or the back. The lock forces full, even power to front and back.

Try it out as is and then if you think you need it, let me know.

By the way, sweet looking truck. Its a fun little thing. Do you have a body for it yet?

OK that is what I thought, but without the ball diff to move power won't you break more stuff?

I have the stock TLT body but not sure how I want to paint it up yet. I would like to try something different on it as well but don't know what else is out there for options.

It depends on if you want to use a hardbody or not . Me I went with a monster beetle hardbody and wk tires and wheels . I also stretched out the wheelbase to fit the body

LOL I know I saw that a while ago and was watching a sand scorcher body kit on eBay and was all set to buy it when the listing disappeared, turned out the guy sold it to a buddy that was local...Did you use one of the kits to extend the wheelbase? If so which one and did you use wideners?

ADMIN: I think this thread got moved to the wrong section?

No I custom fit the the linkages to fit, still looking for driveshafts , I had seen some made by tobee craft that someone on eBay had forsale, but I had already made mine . I had looked for them today and couldn't find them , I also custom locked my tranny , at the time I couldn't afford to buy one . If ya want I can send pics of how I locked the tranny

That would be cool if you could share the pics, I saw the Tobee ones just the other day when I searched eBay. Quite a few actually.

Take and notch out both small pieces as in pics , remove the slipper bearings , and bolt the small pieces together as you see it in the pic ,put your outputs back in there places and tighten them down first so you make sure everything is centered then finish tightening the other two screws. Hope this is helpful.
