Hey Mike that looks great! Always enjoy your builds. I wish I was more of a picture taker back in the day because I was around that truck quite a few times. He is from the next town over from me and still lives there yet today. I do still keep in touch with him as I have known him since about 87. If you have any interest in getting it signed let me know.

I want to get some pics to him as I am sure he will like this.

thanks Eric! I was wondering when you were going to comment, I have seen a picture of your truck on the back of a drag car somewhere around here.

As far as the signature goes..... YES DEFINITELY WOULD LIKE IT SIGNED!

Well in order to enter this truck into the retro class, I needed to set aside the 4 link and sway bar setup. So I installed the stock clodbuster ladderbars. I was surprised to see that the wheelbase was just a little short. I trimmed the wheel-wells to compensate for this and it came out "ok." I think the truck still looks great, I think I am going to get a wider cradle made up for the future.

My rc4wd teammate- Scott Taylor, freshened up my motors for me and the truck did really well as Springs. I had the privilege to receive the "drivers choice" retro concourse and I was able to nail 1st in the retro competition. Largely due to the guy (Brian) who unhooked my truck, HE WAS FAST. This is a fun class and it really is up in the air who will win. With the 4cell nimh restriction you are running at full speeds and able to turn. Lot's of fun and I thank everyone who was able to help me be prepared for this class :)

Looks awesome Mike!!! You really turned my old turd into something special! As for freshening up the motors what did he do exactly new brushed and clean up the comm? and what motors are you running the Kyoshos or Silver Cans?

Scott replaced the brushes and trued the comm in the kyosho megas.

Glad you like it, going to make a bigger cradle to give it more wheelbase.

Worked some more on this project... hopefully it will be finished soon. I wanted to do something different with the cantilevers, the real truck has these mustard yellow shocks, obviously this isn't an exact replica but I want to mimic certain features. So I switched these out and at the same time, put oil in the shocks and hooked up the wheels with THESE COOL and SIMPLE Panetaries.

I picked these little babies up from TOM, TXT-2.0, they are simply little bottle caps that he cuts from their container and then uses a silver sharpie to make the detail. I picked up two sets of these from him and they are the coolest thing.

When doing work of this magnitude you need to bring in a support staff... tongue sticking out while working a must

You need to clean off the wheels. I use COWRC, moo-tor degreaser and cleaner- I spray a little bit on the cloth and then wipe off the inside. I do this because I am looking for a decent bond using the goop silicone adhesive and wheel. I have shop rags that I use to wipe everything up so following up with a degreaser from COWRC is a good idea.

Here I simply put the goop on the ring and center on the wheel around the little molded nuts. I just center it by eye and haven't been disappointed yet. Just look at the distance between the ring inside diameter and the molded nuts- North, South, East, West all look to be about the same distance- good enough for me.

You may notice a little bit of goop outside the ring- now is the time to simply wipe it away with your finger before it dries. NOW THE TEMPTATION WILL BE TO TIGHTEN UP THE LIDS AND LOOK AT THE COOL PLANETARIES... don't do that, let the adhesive dry first- wait a little longer than your first instinct. I moved on to a couple other projects and then came back and looked at the final product. BANGO ready to go

Pastor Mike I just love those planeteries that you make on this project. How did you made them? Also what did you use?

I have made some changes to this... This HPI body is bigger than I thought and the stock zilla cradle is too small. So I made a bigger one! Went easier than expected... had a friend of mine bend up the aluminum. Then I took a jig saw and made the shape and measure the holes to drill them out. Quick trip to see my friend Chad (fatboy) and everythink is Powder Coated. It looks slightly too big but that will change when I change the position of the upper shock mounts :)
