BST section

I can't post in the thread in the BST so thought I would make a thread here.

I am curious to see what others think about the new section. I for one dislike it and liked the old setup we had. It seems to me that there isn't many people putting stuff up for sale like there used to be.

Yeah, the format of the classifieds section is way too redundant and cluttered. BST needs to come back.

Redundent? I am not seeing 4 catagories being redundent (sale, auction, trade & wanted). I can forgo the auction but figured someone might find it useful. And the list is based by date posted the exact same way as a post would be in the forums so I am at a lose as to how it is cluttered.

There are TONS more options now with direct PayPal payment to the poster, ratings of the seller, watch an ad, expiration notice, sold notice, contact seller, comments, etc.

More or less it duplicates the BST section but yet has many more options/abilities as it is a true classifieds software package.

Again I am willing to listen but I think this is more about content with what was as opposed to moving forward and growing.

There is other boards that use this style and I have seen the sale section die from using it. I don't put much up and had rather buy than sale but this new section just seems to be a hassle on both.

It is your board and you do with it what you want. It just seems most don't like it and the old style was simple and it worked.

Its redundant in the respect that you need to list every item separately instead of looking at a nice simple list in a post. Most of the time in the BST people listed multiple items in one post. Its going to get so cluttered in the classifieds once each person starts listing 10 plus of their items for sale.

I like how much more seller protection you get with the new setup.. but I never really had any issues with the old setup. I guess a few people had some issues with some shady sellers but I hardly think thats a reason to change the whole setup. There is always going to be some risk buying used stuff online.

If the classifieds are here to stay Im sure we'll get used to it. Just not crazy about the new setup and think its unnecessary for the kind of selling we do on here.

Looking at this again, Jon did recently demonstrate a different way to post- that shows how you can do multiple items in one listing. Plus there is a subscribe button for new listings. I don't think it's a step backward in time- it's just different than what we are used too- kinda (Steven made some good points). There are definitely more features than what we had before (I don't think any less than what we had) that may shine a lot better down the road. We should give it a couple months before we cast too much more negative light on this.

I think it would work if you could edit the ad... I forgot to put a main pic in mine and that's it no way to fix it. If you make an ad with more than one thing and something sells you can't mark it sold so you will keep getting PMs about it... that's my main issue with the new system, needs a way to edit ads otherwise it's kind of a step backwards.

I was experimenting with the listing to see if I could insert the pictures in an add like we normally did. Result was you can. Without being able to edit the ad people are going to have to read the comments of what has sold from the original listing. Another thing you can do in a comment is to include more pictures. Which can work if you forgot an item or found another item to sell.

Another possible "flaw" is that you cannot end your listing or at least I have not figured out how to do it yet.

I'm sure we will all get use to the new system but it would be nice if it let you do revisions to your listings.

I'll change the config around so you wil be able to edit your own ads not sure why I did not do that the first time around. Also will look at some other options to see if I can give you more control (i.e. close the sale prior)

another thing is being able to keep a good sale open and to the top. The old system kinda did this- old sales or sold threadss sunk to the bottom (or deleted) while fresh (good) sales were able to float to the top with people commenting and keeping it fresh- if that makes any sense. Is there a way to keep the good auctions closer to the top of the list and not get lost?

To mark an item sold, when your viewing your item in the right side of the screen there is a drop down menu called "Product Options". There you will find an option called "SOLD IT!"

That option does not work for me. I tried to do that on one of my ads and it said I do not have permission for that action.

X2, I tried to do that for a want ad(I figured that's how to close the ad) and it wouldn't let me do it. It also doesn't let me post messages to any ad.

Ok, can someone please try to edit their ad and or mark it sold. I'lll be working on finalizing the classifieds configuration by end of the day if possible as long as I can get some feedback as to what is working and or not.

Thanx

Just edited my ad and added a picture... seems to be working. This should work good now, if you want to list multiple items together you can just like the old way. Then go in and edit as things sell.
