i think the small rotor on a big truck would be a weak point.
i bet it would be ok in a touring car, though.

are you sure it was one of those?
i thought Bill had dual 60A systems in that one.

anyone tried dual sidewinder sct escs with the 3800kv motors?
i wonder what the differance is from a standard sidewinder.
ive noticed that some of these come pre-wired, esc to motor, with no connectors.
i wonder if the wires are long enough for clod applications.

also, i wonder what would be better; this sct motor, 4600 kv castle or vxl motors?
i want to go brushless in my stretched clod with (probably) stock sized tires. any opinions?
also, what pinion size does everyone run?

with dual 4000kv motors i'm running a 15tooth pinion. i could go up another tooth but i like the way it drives.

the lower the Kv the more tork it has

my expearance with 2wd slash and the 550 12t titon is about the same as a 540 Kv2300-to-2500 brushless at best

the cheep $25 Kv3600 I'm using in my slash are not super fast but they do not over heat

I melted down a 6000Kv novak in the fust run

I look at it this way KV5000 and up are for light waght on road cars

absolutely no problems with my 4600s on 3s and 20tooth pinions...will still pull wheelies on demand...

wow! that must be crazy fast! you island guys are all insane!
have any vids uploaded of this beast?

btw, on a speed demon like that, do you typically like a locked or open rear diff?
i have mine locked right now and i have some 4600 sv2 combos on the way.
i dont plan to go so high with the pinions, but i want some speed. ill probably settle between 12t-15t.

i dont think i have any vids of it...will try to get some when i have a chance (i'm at home sick right now with a high fever, so might be a few days or so)...

there was a thread a few weeks ago where me and bigchad808 put his gps in it and clocked it at a top speed of 44.1mph...

i run both of my diffs open (stock diffs- i dont have the ball diffs in mine), because we sometimes run tight tracks where i need it to turn very sharply...

i used to run 15t pinions in mine, but it was still so much torque that the front end would have a hard time staying down...and with the 20s, the motors still arent overworked...they just barely get warm, and this is on a heavy truck (jps gearboxes/axles)...

preston (pocho112) runs 23t pinions in his stock-class clod if i'm not mistaken...

Wow to some of these motors. For me, I've found the sweet spot for shortcourse to be between 3200 and 3900KV. A common misconception is that a 5700 will ALWAYS be faster than a 3200. It also comes down to gearing. I've had a 3300KV motor (one of those cheapy novatech ones actually) that was faster than a 4300 novak because I could gear it better. I sent the 3300 to a friend and it got his Levant up to 56 MPH on 3S and that motor never got hot. 2wd buggies can handle a higher KV and on road even higher. that's always been my rule of thumb.

I can't speak for running in a clod because I don't have a dual brushless...YET. But I'd guess the higher KV works because you're running dual motor and there is less stress on each motor. But that's a guess.

PS I'm not saying you CAN'T run 5700 in short course etc, I'm just saying what I've found to be the sweet spots.

open diffs, always on a race truck.

with dual 4000kv motors i use 15 tooth pinions and i keep the suspension plush so it squats and shoots instead of wheelie.

high kv is low on tq. that why most guys are running motors in the 4000 range.
the 4k range is a nice mid point between tq monster and a motor that just wants to spin up.

i'd try a larger pinion but most courses are short so anything over 16 teeth isn't really going to be beneficial.

so me and bigchad went to go get some vids for you...no real planning, we just grabbed a 3s battery pack and chad's camera and found a empty road...

truck gets a bit loose and hard to control at times because the tires start to balloon then flatten into discs...makes the handling a bit odd to say the least...lol...in some of the vids you can notice the tire's profile change...

WOW!
that thing is a beast!
:willy

im gonna be running 2s, so i wont be that fast.
funny thing is, i have the same body and tires on mine.

im gonna start of with 15t pinions ('cause i have 'em)
i noticed that with adj motor mounts, i dont get the pinion fully contacting the spur.
i get about 1/2 the width contacting.
do you have this same issue?

Some pinions are narrow, RC4WD makes some wider (longer) pinions that will work better when an adjustable mount pushes the motor farther out. Also you can try 5mm pinions and sleeve to fit a 3mm shaft. The 5mm are a bit longer than most 3mm.
