Alright, I fired up the mill and made some stuff for the TXT-2. I wanted to clean up the axles a bit by removing some of the "bulk" like the bumper/skidplates. The idea is to make the axles look a bit more scale while at the same time removing some weight.
First I designed and milled out a VTA servo mount out of carbon fiber. This mounts a low profile servo neatly behind the axle to improve steering ackerman. Combined with shaving of the knuckles the truck's steering is greatly improved.
Here's a picture of the mount installed. I had originally just used the stock steering links but they were a bit flimsy with the heftier clod tires and beadlocks.
Now that the servo is axle mounted, I could get around to removing the bumpers. I milled out new suspension mounts and here they are installed in the front.
IMO the axle looks very different without the large bumper and skidplate.
On the rear the parts were slightly modified to include a rear lockout. I've still to machine a bar to link left and right to make the setup more rigid, but installed as it is some early bench testing suggests strength will not be an issue.
A picture of the "cleaned up" axle...
Also upgraded to a new powerplant - the Hobbywing SCT Pro esc and motor. This motor has more than enough grunt to haul this truck around.
Here are some pictures of the truck. Forgive the contrast in these pics taken at night in low light conditions... I'll take more when the sun is out. lol!
Next up to remove the bumpers on the chassis...
