BloodClod's Tamiya TXT-2 (new mods 21 April!)

Thought I'd share some pics of the TXT-2.

Just finished the build over the weekend. Still have to slap some paint on but I think with some Clod sized tires the truck looks pretty good.

The new chassis plates feature plastic molded over aluminum rods which are then screwed together with the black metal plates (where the sponsor decals go). The whole setup is pretty rigid and of all the trucks from Tamiya to date looks the most scale.

Transmission remains unchanged from the TXT-1 (no slipper unfortunately) but some of the plastic parts are a LOT more rigid than I recall. I ended up using a vice to snap on the rod ends to the balls because they were so strong.

Not a fan of the front and rear bumpers but I put them on to mount the battery box and radio plate... probably would take them off once the modding begins.

Currently sporting a single 540-sized 6.5T brushless motor but I suspect a 550 can is probably better as this is one seriously heavy truck.

Any questions on this new truck let me know and I'll post what I know. :)

Are the axles any different?
unfortunately as far as I can tell, they are identical to the TXT-1 axles in design. The materials seem the same too as far as the transmission goes. I was hoping for the inclusion of a slipper at least but no...

So there really is no type of swaybar system?
Nope. No sway bar system but the suspension setup is relatively stiff. I'm glad they spec-ed oil shocks with this truck but building 8 of these shocks was the most tedious part of the build! lol!

As far as I can remember (it's been a while since I've driven a stock TXT-1), the torque twist on this truck is significantly less than on a TXT-1 due to the shocks.

If sways are needed, I guess the old bent piano wire zip tied to the links will work. :)

I thought Clod style wheels and tires would look great on that thing!

Did it come with a painted body as well, or just decals like the Jugg use to come with? I may have to pick up some chassis plates once they FeeBay?

if the shocks are that stiff i would definitely ditch them for a softer setup and get some heavy sway bars .....clod tires ! they way it should have been !!! looks great so far keep us updated ? and heavier that a TXT-1 ?

hmmm thinking removing a set of springs and using original TXT lower links and anti-sways is going to be the way to go.

Are the sponsor decals real companies or gibberish?

Can you take a picture of a txt2 kit wheel/tire next to a clod tire please?

cool man now should have parts for my txt1 upset that the the trannys the same i was hoping for one with one high gear and a slipper clutch

Just a clear shell and a large decal sheet. Here's a pic...

They are on the stiff side but I took the truck round our local offroad track yesterday and they did okay. Definitely less torque-twist than the stock TXT-1. Despite the stiff setup the truck still has pretty decent articulation.

I'm afraid it's the typical set of modern Tamiya logos. See the pic above for a reference.

Here's a pic of the tires. Interestingly they aren't much smaller diameter wise, but I think it's the narrow width that hurts the look the most. IMO these MAXX-sized threads look best on a slammed truck and pushed wider out.

You and me both... but I guess we should be thankful this truck has been released at all. :)

Here are a couple more pictures of the truck.

Close up of the chassis plates.

Electronics setup on my truck.

Bottom view. Black links are nice. Pretty much standard everything else.

Any questions just ask. :)

This might be a dumb question, but is this kit available already? I thought it wasn't coming out until next month.
