ok guys, here it goes...

ive got a txt chassis and links that i wanna use.
i was gonna slap some clod or TXT axles under it to make a basher for my wife.

my question; whats the tranny that fits nice, 3906?
also, im thinking of putting jumbo kongs on this one so i want some strong axles.
think i should keep the clods? or txt? or something else?

i like all input, so if you have an idea let me know!

The old setups used to run the original maxx transmissions, which I do believe were the 3906 models but Im sure you could easily mock a newer one in place. If you're going to go with Kongs, and put alot of power to it, I'd suggest looking for X-factor axles. I'm going to be running Kongs on a sassy chassis clod project within the next few months, but it's going to have either lathes or mag mayhems, not huge power. I'm not sure if there are many upgrades for the txt axles but I remember back when people used to do serious crawling with Kongs they ran X-factor axles.

Check out Rummy's monster found here, seems like its right up your alley, same chassis, etc! http://www.rcmt.biz/bd/showthread.php?t=10191

yeah, i love Nicks build.
also, i read about your plan for your sassy; i hope the kongs arent to big for it.
the stock wheelbase may be kinda short, but it sure will look massive!

im figuring a 14"-16" wb on mine.
youre right about gearing on the txt; thats why im thinkin maxx tranny.
ill probably run an evx2 with dual batteries, so that will help with power, too.

Nope, I've seen kongs on a stock clod crawler before, close but still work out. Its really just a fun build, I love the look of stock clods and figured I have a few fast monsters, now I just want to build a truck thats just big and fun. I wished I could afford it cause Id rock a bullhead body on it but Im working on my stock clod body for it. Im just not familiar with the stregth of TXT axles, they may hold up Im not sure, someone else might have to chime in. Just figured I've only really seen Kongs mainly on X-factor axles

hey wait a second, I thought you said you were going to finish some projects before starting another? :tong

yeah, your clod should be pretty fun with the kongs.

as for strength, the txt axles seem pretty stout.
im a little worried about gears though; maybe i dont need to be.

i might like the extra width of the x-factors if i can find some.
i was also thinking twin force axles might work.
but getting parts for kyoshos has always been an issue.

in fact, getting parts for this is a reason why i might go clod; parts are everywhere.

i said i was going to TRY to finish some projects before starting another.

besides, me wife likes it when i fill the dining room and kitchen tables with parts that overflow my workbench!?!

TXT gears nothing to worry about. I've run them on my ridiculously heavy TXT basher with twin packs and emaxx trans without any problems. The gears in those axles were from a used truck that the previous owner ran a brushless system on without properly greasing them so they were pretty worn when I put that truck together a few years ago but they look the same today.

The real weak point I've found with TXT axles have been the housings, especially on a truck that jumps a lot. But that's easily solved with some epoxy on critical spots.

I'd go with the Twin Force axles if your worried about strength. The X-Factors are just too wide for it to look right.

i really dont know how much i have to worry about strength.
i really plan for this to be for my wife so i want it tough due to her kind of driving.
:willy
but realistically, it wont get used a whole lot.
i think she would like it for when we go on vacation this summer to Cape Cod.
im thinking the big tires will be fun on the sand.
im also not to concerned with scale looks.
im probably gonna get a slash or maxx sized bug body for her.

ok, so i think im back to just clod or txt axles.
i know a lot of the racers like the clod axles; maybe i should just go that route?
i already have most of the parts for that anyway.

thats what im thinking.
besides, i already have 2 TXTs.

all i really need for the clod are some minor pieces.
i havent found the long axles shafts for one axle yet; they might be in the wrong box.
i need some upper link mounts, maybe 1 stub axle, a rear steer eliminator, and that might be it.
i have to figure out how to make my TXT links work with this configuration, but i think its been done.
ill see what i can do!?!

you can always use the lower, then custom make uppers to work with whatever axle/gearbox mounts you've chosen.

yeah, thats what im thinking.
i might even be able to use all the TXT links and just swap different link ends.
i want the wb be kinda long, so im thinking TXT uppers with revo ends as the lower links.
we'll see once i figure out exact wb and what upper link mounts i use.

clod axles = less parts. less parts = less things that can break.
thats true, but the parts that are eliminated (drive shaft & trans) arent really weak points anyway.

the main thing is this:
i have basically complete clod axles; but no spare TXT axles.

cog is a good point, but with jumbo kongs im not sure it matters.
those tires are heavy!
even if i mount the batteries kinda high, i dont think ill have to worry about it.

oh... im gonna need some pinions.
anyone know off hand what the stock size is?
should i change out to a different tooth count with the kongs?
maybe i should decide what motors first.
i might just run a couple stockers with dual packs through the evx.
i wonder is clod-stall is a concern with the evx; maybe ill drop a tooth on the rear.

idk; ive still got a bit of time before i get that far.
:-(

Rc4wd has some 9 tooth semi long pinions that will work well with a motor adjustment plates.

If you pm me I have some homemade motor swings that you can have to adjust gear mesh
