I also noticed that you sometimes run an 8.5 in your truck. Have you ever run into diff problems?
I think i remember him making a thread about diff problems caused the motor to fail.
The truck was going full power up a hill climb..the back diff couldn't handle it and jumped several teeth, the motor hit full RPM and damaged something

But i don't mean to steal Troy's glory on that tale :p

Not yet, bud! ::fingers crossed:: I did have the diffs shimmed up and locked with Silly Putty, but it started to let go. The putty began to spin with the gears, and really polished them up nicely (they looked chromed!)but climbing ability suffered. I recently added the Axial iron cross style lockers to her, so we'll see what happens. With a 7 cell and 8.5 on tap, it's a handfull to say the least:shk.

I'll be heading out today to do some bashing/trail running, so hopefully I can snap a few good shots. I'll be running Stampede rear rims all around (to narrow the trackwidth) with some Rock Lizzards I had laying around. I also swapped out the stock pogo sticks for some sweet Sportwerks threaded bouncers. I think it'll be more agile than running the giant All-T's, but prolly won't look as mean :tong

Pics later today...

Thats one of my racing buddies new truck. He's running borrowed Moabs on WK rims, a cheapie 17 turn motor and flipped lower link mounts. It's his first 4x4 and he's hooked! We'll be hitting that area again, this time with extra batts for the cam. Missed alot of nice shots, damned digital cameras are too power hungry. Just below there is a really nice and rocky creek, so look for some more photos shortly :)

That's a great looking WK!!

What body are you running?

I think I'm going to try trimming up the chassis like you did. Is the aluminum I'm seeing there what actually holds the tranny in place?

Thanks for the interest, guys :). That's the Pro-line maxx sized C-10. The Axial lockers drop right in, so do their diffs. The aluminum you see holds the trans in place, and the link screws hold it to the chassis. It performs much better tummy-tucked, it's not as top heavy and tippy. Here's a few more shots of it at an offroad park/campsite.

Props to my trigger man for wheelin' while I snap a few. The same guy that gave me the quote below :laugh

What gearing do you run on the 8.5 Troy?
Also, what top speeds are you hitting roughly with those tyres in the pics?

It's apparently an 8.5 i bought (4000kv unsensored)
Curious to how it will perform in my king with 2s lipo and 7 cell packs

I'm running the stock spur gear and the smallest pinion that will fit. I went for climbing power instead of top speed, but I'd say it's a little faster than a stock Stampede (maybe 30-35mph?). I could easily gear up and probably hit somewhere in the 40 mph range, especially with a 7 cell. It will still wheelie on command on high traction surfaces, even with the pack up front. There's no shortage of torque :)

You won't be disappointed with that mod. You'll need to make a 90 degree bracket (or 2) somewhere near the top of the chassis to anchor the motorplate/trans assembly for stability. I used a piece of aluminum angle and bolted it through the motorplate, and used an exsisting hole it the stock chassis. The bottom end uses the stock tranny mounts, just drill 2 holes in your fabbed up center side plates.

As for the 1:1 Yota, we towed a Sami (the red one in pic #1) on a full size Blazer chassis 3 or 4 miles down an offroad trail when the driver ran out of gas :tong. We owed him a tow anyway (pic #2)For a daily driver, that lil truck kicked butt on the trails. He's also working on a 350 powered Yota mudder :tmb Pic #3 was one of my favorite trucks from the weekend.

ok so i got the stuff cut to where it needs to be cut. Any way you think you could post some pics of the aluminum parts or maybe jus a sketch? haha this is a slow going process for one thats a visual learner:bang

Hope these help. I just followed the contour of the center section and traced it out. You can see where I drilled the holes for the links and trans. The second pic shows the upper gearbox mount, just a peice of aluminum angle. It's really pretty easy, even for me :tong
