Best rigs in the world?

I'm leaving racing out of this as I'm assuming most of us MT drivers bash- that having been said, in your opinion;

What are the two best monster trucks ever made, 1 gas, and one electric, based on durability/reliability, power, jumping, handling, and speed?

I assuming you're asking in their 100% box stock configuration?

Electric is a tough one for me...but gas is a no brainer IMO - 2.5 T-Maxx. Great combo of power and reliability. Did everything well, and I bashed the crap out of mine and only popped a couple shock caps and twisted one drive shaft. I was damn impressed with that truck. Earlier versions didn't have enough power. Not real fond of the huge tires on the 3.3 version either.

Electric truck...based on stock configuration and the criteria listed would have to be the E-Maxx.

well if you had good batteries back in the 90's a MRC Thunderking comes to mind. They are one tough truck even if a stadium truck on massive steriods.

If they released it again with brushless and lipo it would really rock this time around.

I'll have to say currently the kyosho twinforce kruiser ve just re-released is the best out of the box monster truck. Fast and rugged it is killer.

Nitro, ae sc8 or it's truggy brother

nitro-orignal tmaxx. 1.5 style. it set the bar for everything after it and even though it wasnt the fastest out there it still set benchmarks for speed in the RTR section.

electric-CLOD HANDS DOWN. no other electric monster truck comes close. stock clods are great for bashing but then you can even go and get a full built boyer tube frame or zilla and make it a true scaler....HANDS DOWN!

if we're comparing stock trucks:

nitro- t-maxx...nitro, REVERSE, and 2 speeds...like kev mentioned, it set the bar...

electric- erevo...power, speed, durability, parts availability...

Electric - Traxxas Summit - easily the most versatile vehicle ever made in stock form.

Nitro - much tougher call. I'm going to have to go with the Kyosho MFR - it's one of the most well-thought-out vehicles I've ever seen and if you look at it up close, it baffles you how many "duh" things that other companies don't include in the design of their vehicles.

Nitro - Traxxas 2.5 T-Maxx or HPI Savage

Electric - If bashing is what your after than your really cant go wrong with a Traxxas Stampede.

FASCINATING to read your responses! This is actually influencing my decision and making me rethink my choices.. I am about to buy one gas, and one electric truck.

Carcrusher, I had never even HEARD of the Kyosho MFR-interesting..I did love Kyosho's electric monster truck..they reference a "QRC" transmission..was this not in some type of Kyosho gas powered truck before in 1997? With a dodge body?

I should've been more clear guys sorry, yes stock form.

The QRC trucks were different to say the least - from what I can recall, they could be set up for brakes, or for reverse, but not both. They were out in the '97ish time span and there was the Snake Bite truck, Dodge Ram, and a Beetle I believe.

The MFR was covered by most major magazines, and it's just amazing how practical it is. Everything on the suspension is the same front to rear, left to right, and the little details like wire routing and the touch-start system are just too cool. I sold a lot of them at the shop and we never had anyone that had any durability issues with them.

I own a LST2, Summit, Stampede, Mad Force VE, 3 Clods, and Baja Currently.

"based on durability/reliability, power, jumping, handling, and speed?"

Nitro: LST2

In chassis durability I know it can take as much if not more than any traxxas/HPI rig. I have cracked a couple diff cases though (coming down from 12ft high jump full throttle double back flips). I also broke a shock shaft... I bought RPM arms and still haven't needed them yet? This truck can handle and jump too!

Obviously since I own one I might be biased, but if I owned something that sucks I would say it does. I think a revo might out handle a LST, but I don't know if they are as durable.

Electric: E-revo, stampede, maybe Mad Force VE?
I have a summit and really like it for what it is. E revo would be much lighter/faster

Stampede VXL well it has durability, reliability , speed power and jumping, handling in my opinion isn't the best truck for that.. it's only 2wd so maybe it's not part of the comparison.

Mad Force VE if you want to talk solid axle. It's fast and jumps and ok handling, durability I'm not sure.. broke a rear knuckle on an indoor jump already, more testing once the snow is gone!

Im so confused. I'm ready to buy two trucks, I've been saving for some time, adn have sold a few things on ebay and Craigs to come up with enough to buy two great, solid rigs. I wanted both to be high speed MTs, one gas, and one electric..AZ has a LOT of wide open desert.. so though the Summit and the Clod are awesome trucks, they're not a lot of fun in a mostly open field.. now that I'm talking to you guys, I'm also considering not 1 gas/1 electric, but 1 crawler truck/1 high speed truck...arg. I know I know poor me, what a problem to have lol. My budget is a 1000. That why I mentioned "stock", because it took me forever to get thsi money, and once I get both, I won't have any bread left to hop them up. My buddy says I should get the summit, and buy some super Mamba motor package so it goes faster than 20mph.. then I'd have a truck that does everything.. but I wouldn't have a gas rig :-(

Nitro= 4907 Tmaxx 3.3

Ive had 6 tmaxxs and 3 savages and to me the tmaxx is the best. I think the savage is a stronger truck, but the tmaxx is the better over all truck.

Electric= Tamiya TXT-1

Since my electric trucks consist of old Usa-1s, Clods and a TXT im going to have to say the TXT

Have you considered buying used? Just for an example you can get a good running stampede for 80-120 dollars. Or a T-Maxx for about 120 with a new engine costing 80-150.

If your played your cards right you could have a fast 2wd, good running nitro, slightly modded crawler, and maybe a large electric MT like a clod. Or only get 3 and buy a nice charger or controller they could share. If you only got 2 then you could also get some after market parts.

If your cautious and ask people what to look for then you could do very well buying used.

you could always build one of these, you'll never need nitro
And this isn't even close to it's top end, take out the 2 2s, pop in 2 3s packs and watch out

Thank you for all of your imput guys- for the nitro truck, I've narrowed it down to the Revo 3.3, or the Savage 5.9, anyone got a favorite or think I'm picking a lemon? I've been out of r/c a LONG time and don't know much other than specs, and that I have owned 3 Savages, and believe in their reliability.

If you get a savage XL buy it used as a roller or with a aftermarket engine. I have heard nothing but problems about the 5.9.

Hearing about problems and actually owning and having experience is 2 totally different scenarios . I have owned 2 XL Savages and never had any problems with the 5.9 engine.
